Chair and Professor of Economics at GVSU, husband and father, recreational runner, seemingly one of very few FC Heidenheim supporters in North America
Exactly 81 years ago, my great-uncle Oliver Weissert "celebrated" Christmas by fighting in a skirmish in the small town of Verdenne, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. (He was KIA two months later a little bit north of Aachen.)

Hard to have a worse sports day than I had yesterday:

Bundesliga: FC Heidenheim loss to FC Bayern 0-4

NFL: Lions go old-school and blow their season against Steelers

NCAA Basketball: Southern Illinois loss to Bradley

Fantasy Football: Lost in playoffs because Josh Allen scored a measely 6 points

A Thanksgiving Miracle.

(We are at my mom's for the weekend and after FCH scored their second goal, I screamed so loud that I scared my mom.)

Happy Wednesgiving* to all who celebrate!

*Wednesgiving is a holiday my family made up a while back that allows my siblings and I to spend part of Thanksgiving week celebrating with my dad and stepmom and another day with my mom and her side of the family.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

All football clubs should be majority fan owned (cf. the 50+1 rule in the Bundesliga).
Everybody should absolutely view this as an invitation to drop your spiciest soccer takes.
lol I’m gonna need bluesky’s biggest soccer post ever to balance out all the politics engagement im burying myself under.

We used to call this stupidity. There were smart people and stupid people and we let the smart people do the things they were good at and the stupid people were taken care of and didn't need to worry about what the smart people were doing. But now we let the stupid people think they're smart.

FC Heidenheim with a comfortable match against 4th tier Bahlinger SC.

Fun fact for me is that the Kaiserstuhl region in which Bahlingen is located is where my Giedeman(n) ancestors were from. (I still have long-distant cousins living in the area even if I don't know any of them.)

My annual "mitgliedskarte" from FC Heidenheim has arrived. 🙂🙂

It will be a hard year for FCH. The only silver lining is that it will be impossible for them to finish lower in the Bundesliga standings than they are expected to finish. 🙃

Talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones all you want, but the greatest US television program ever made is Sesame Street. It's not even close. 50+ years of treating kids across class, ethnicity, religion not as mini-consumers...but as citizens with a stake in this world.
