Attacking pre-school teachers because they don’t think Palestinian kids should be bombed to death? Declaring NYC’s first Muslim mayor “our enemy?” Fomenting hatred, even within the Jewish community?

You’re not making anyone safer.🧵

Let’s hope they do! All school lunches should be free!
“What if rich kids take advantage of free school lunches?” is like asking “What if rich executives take advantage of public transportation?”

What if they do?

They probably won’t. But what if they do?

Well, nothing.

An entire room full of powerful old white people smiling and laughing as the president dehumanizes black immigrants and the first black president.

Just fucking pathetic.
Trump, continued: "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack HUSSEIN Obama, because that’s when people started coming in... They want to kiss our country good night."

No, you *don’t* gotta hand it to him, actually.
Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

Also, the Interstate Highway System as it was implemented in US cities is not what I’d consider a great model for how to get urban development projects done in a fair and effective manner.
Lesson one: Yes, you can do a lot of things if you break the law.
Lesson two: Doing something is not the same as doing a good thing - it is harder to build than it is to destroy.
Trump has built nothing like the TVA. His lawbreaking is not "freeing the stuck wheels of bureaucracy."

Drives me nuts to hear centrists praise Trump‘s “effectiveness”. Destruction of USAID and university research is not effectiveness. Arresting and deporting legal immigrants and deploying armed thugs to harass people based on their race is not an “effective” immigration policy.

As someone with ADHD, I’m uncomfortable with some of these accommodations. Not everyone knows they have ADHD (I didn’t). Extended/quiet time would help *everyone*. But also, the workplace won’t be giving us any such.

But it’s no “crisis” compared to what else is going on in higher ed these days.
So a real dirty (non)secret about the adhd accommodations panic is that it is an issue almost entirely due to shitty teachers being shitty. I never got mad about the "help" my students needed because I *WANTED* them to succeed! Also, we should make most accommodations just accepted best practices!

This is truly the best of what America can be and often is. I can’t fathom not feeling proud of what we’ve built here, and I’m endlessly gutted by the hateful bigots who are trying to tear it all down.
Anyway the best I've ever felt about America was me (Jewish) standing in line with my friend and her daughter (Irish and Latina) to pet a baby lamb at the Minnesota State Fair alongside a hijabi Black woman and her daughter, an East Asian family, an African-American family, and some white people.

“We sort all opinions into two buckets and assign them equal value without examining their content, motivation, or resemblance to reality. What more could we possibly do??”
By situating the Times as nobly filling the space between the diametrically opposed wants of the “left” and the “right” and suggesting that all of these critiques are ideologically motivated and are equally valid (or invalid), this misses the point of much of the criticism of the paper’s coverage.

This is so, so, very stupid. There’s literally no way in which datacenters in space would or could be more efficient, more environmentally friendly, or more economical.

(Best case, he’s trying to bait the competition into wasting money on this.)
“In a decade, Pichai said that it'll be normal to build extraterrestrial data centers”.

And he’s definitely not the only one speaking about the *necessity* of data centers in space. Apparently the planet is not big enough for their scaling “laws”.

Sundar Pichai says Google will start building data centers in space, powered by the sun, in 2027
Google announced Project Suncatcher earlier this month. CEO Sundar Pichai now says it could begin building data centers in space as soon as 2027.

Apparently AI isn’t yet smart enough to know how to design a colorblind-friendly chart. This may be one of the worst I’ve ever seen for someone with deuteranomolous color vision. Only if I zoom all the way in can I tell the red bars from the green. And the yellow labels blend into that background.
Make your product so compelling that it can have terrible reliability and users will still keep coming back.

(but then fix your reliability problems eventually, pleeaase)

The worst thing to happen to academia was the emergence of a nomadic administrative class like the one in corporations who just move from institution to institution setting fires and walking away.

Say what you will about the flaws of faculty governance, but at least they believe in the mission.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

No, “scientists” who understand LLMs do not say any such thing. Just because you found two PhDs to say something stupid doesn’t mean you can or should assert in your subhead that “scientists” say that stupid thing.
