It's not just the scale of the new company that you have to get your mind around; it's that plus the fact that it's likely to be MAGA minded and could include TikTok— along with CNN and CBC. www.status.news/p/david-elli...

Every time your electricity bill goes up for the next 10 years, it can be traced back to this Administration’s actions.

They are making solar and wind power illegal to build in the United States. They are artificially restricting supply while demand is going up.

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

Slides posted for thimerosal presentation at ACIP included citation of study that appears not to exist

“I don’t have a publication in Neurotoxicology by that title,” the apparent lead author told us

The economics associated with weather / climate hazard research, data collection, and building codes should never be considered as a "spend".

This is an investment.

The more we learn will directly translate to saved lives and reduced loss costs because we've proactively taken mitigative action.

People don't miss manufacturing jobs. They miss the effects of having 30+ percent union density. And we can build worker power again, with good policies, for the jobs most working class people actually have today rather than hoping mumbo jumbo will make it 1955 again.
When (some) people talk about bringing back manufacturing, they mean "bring back steel & auto jobs that someone can take right out of high school, and live a middle class life"
The worst part of this is that even if manufacturing jobs came back because of this (they won’t)
and even if Americans retooled for those jobs (they won’t) those jobs sucked! It’s like demanding to return to being a farming society. People fled that life the instant they could, in the millions!

Important note about this breakthrough:

Literally would not exist without the kind of Federal support the current administration is slashing.

Took 15+ years of research at a federal lab (Lawrence Berkeley) to get this to a point at which private enterprise could take over and make these at scale.
Thanks to Steve Jobs and Gorilla Glass, factories in America are now ramping up to make affordable windows, made from panes thinner than a credit card, that can:

* save Americans $25 billion / year

* withstand a 2x4 shot out of a cannon

Few hours ago I did an interview with a local NY TV where I highlighted how dangerous this slow (not so slow...) degradation of observational capacity will lead to less reliable weather predictions and more risks across the board. The journalist had not heard this before, but was pretty shocked.
NWS just announced a major reduction in upper-air (weather balloon) observations due to staffing shortages.

Omaha and Rapid City losing balloon launches altogether, with launches cut in half at 6 other sites.

Losing this many launches could affect severe weather forecasting and computer models.

worth saying again these these unilateral cuts are illegal. neither trump nor musk has the authority to unilaterally slash appropriated funds.
Hearing that the DOGE chaos hurricane is hitting HUD soon, and the plan is to devastate federal housing funding. Let's be clear: this would cause a cascade of catastrophic impacts nationwide, shutting down housing and dumping families into the street.

A Trump-Musk memo telling US government employees to hide what’s happening from the public is a sign that:

1) Public legitimacy is a constraint for them, they know it, and will at times alter their behavior accordingly

2) Reporters should focus on it, revealing more of what they’re trying to hide
Awful: Internal USAID memo instructs employees to refrain from talking to the media about cuts in assistance to the most vulnerable or they may get fired, WaPo reports.

Trumpworld knows this is a big political problem for them. Keep the focus on it.
