I know, easier said than done, but: if you live anywhere near Tampa, you need to consider leaving. It's rare for hurricanes to make landfall from the west, and it'll push the storm surge right up the bay. The 1848 hurricane reconfigured Tampa Bay's geography; navigational charts had to be remapped.
