I’m down in fidi and popped into dead rabbit for a happy hour beer, and in the last ten minutes the bartender had to explain what a dry martini is and make a tequila sprite

We’ve failed the children, no one knows how to drink anymore

So this phrase “able-bodied” has clearly been on the most recent list of R talking points. It comes from the first round of English labor laws, which were instituted after the Black Death.

A mini medieval story time!
Jim Jordan: "If there's an able-bodied adult out there now who is in our welfare system, guess what -- that person is going to have to work ... that is far from immoral."

They've gone beyond cruelty into pure, punitive evil for the fun of it. This was always how it was going to go 7 kudos to you if you've seen it since day one.

Social media is collective memory. Back in the day you could just claim you always fought against it, but now, we'll know who you were.

no but really I'm about to run to the art store and just splash some paint on a big canvas (paint over it later I guess @roseopossum.bsky.social? )
Was a real pleasure and honor to have @linamkhan.bsky.social by the @crisesnotes.bsky.social office today and getting some students a very privileged opportunity to talk to her in a small setting (in advance, by happenstance to a reading group about the 1970s precursor to index funds debates today)

my god I need to get some art up in that conference room
When people on the left talk about "building power" they're often talking about knocking doors or attending steering committee meetings

When I think about "building power" I imagine people doing exactly what Nathan has been doing with Notes on the Crises

Many have done much less with much, more

NEW PIECE: the recent court of International Trade case provides a rich history of the President's executive control of tariffs. So rich in fact, that this is just about that fascinating legal history. This is essentially a history of 20th century economic policy

Nathan is the first person I've worked with who has big ideas they can actually back up.

Also the office is still in extreme progress; not shown are the efforts of folks like @alexandermaxfine.bsky.social and @evancook.audio who come in to paint (and paint, and paint), crack jokes, and (1/)

rfk to firemen: drop dead
The entirety of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health was wiped out last night in a form letter sent by RFK Jr.

NIOSH is an agency in the CDC that investigates workplace hazards and finds solutions. It protects workers, so it’s gone. Even firefighters.

Update: we now have much more furniture and WiFi, plus I think I left fries in the fridge
Pardon me, we also have a seltzer maker and a tape measure
As some of you are aware, I have an office now. I am definitely spending more time here than others would this early in being set up. But i am so thrilled that it doesn't matter to me we have one coffee table, a large couch and two office chairs.

The Syrian Arabic word for a hamster is أبو جراب (abu jrab), where jrab refers to a pouch/saddlebag/tote. And abu often means “father of,” but can also function as a general honorific (like “mister”). So it’s not too big a stretch to say the Syrian Arabic word for a hamster means “Mister Saddlebags”

buy extra underpants now. we got really used to cheap underwear and that'll likely go away soon. make sure you have enough.
