When you audit Perusall, you can see instances where a student cut-and-pasted a single word. I discovered that this is a fun way to figure out what words undergraduates find difficult to spell.

This term, I'm keeping track of them.

Week 1:

boredom
existing (SAME, student, SAME)

Goosebumps watching this. Chicagoans fighting for this country. Mass collective action is the only thing that can keep fascism away.

It seems like we cycled really quickly from TikTok protest songs to TikTok war songs.

Be the sort of person where even the rumor of your demise sparks a global depressive spiral and not the Ewok celebration from Return of the Jedi

“There are just a lot of rumors flying around. But I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was okay,” Dolly Parton said in a new two-minute video posted on Instagram. “I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t think God is through with me. And I ain’t done working.” https://to.pbs.org/4hc1DXB
'I'm not dying': Dolly Parton responds to concerns about her health
Late last month Parton postponed her first Las Vegas residency in 32 years, citing “health challenges.”

I have to agree: there is no better way to demotivate people for a mass rally than to require an email address (for various reasons). No Kings is really fucking up here by not even telling people where the various protests will be. You must make attending protests convenient.
blueheronfarm.bsky.social
You do you, but I guess I'm skipping the next one, because there's no point to a secret rally. I'm not going to RSVP to get an address. 🙄
The No Kings rally info for Cypress, TX. It says this event's address is private. Sign up for more details.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Welcome to the capitalist innovation museum we got

- scam machine
- psychosis inducing machine
- weapons of mass destruction
- button you push that makes the planet hotter
- markets that intentionally starve people
- clothes that fall apart after washing them 1 time
- medicine you can’t afford

I think anyone who saw the episode where Mr. Rogers explains the Trolley Problem has it seared in their memory forever.
So much violence, depictions of gore we never thought possible in puppetry.
We wept, we screamed, we were scarred.
Still, it was educational.
So that’s good.
I guess.

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

The just-released IEA's Renewables 2025 report forecasts capacity will nearly double by 2030, but miss the COP28 target. Solar PV dominates growth (80%), with China leading the build-out. The USA forecast was cut significantly due to policy changes.

so obviously when the educational system is entirely focused on apprenticeships, the state will invest in big infrastructure projects to make sure they have work and we all benefit from an abundance of housing, great transport and and cheap renewable energy, right?

right?

As a historian of the 19th century, I regularly think about who might have sat next to each other in the Reading Room of the BL without either knowing who the other one was, while both were researching and writing world-changing texts.
