EVs are the best except for the glaring problem of lack of charging stations for road trips. And it has not really improved in California in the 4 years I’ve had an EV which is really perplexing.

Caltrans has released a cross section for the ultimate (raised viaduct) version of SR-37.

Now maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if you were building a road that you planned to keep at 4 lanes wide, I don't think it would look like this.

I can't stop thinking about this. We're pursuing zero fire risk in multifam, while tolerating much more in single-fam. People respond by building and living in single-fam, where they're exposed to not only one of the highest fire death risks in the developed world, but also TONS more car crash risk

This is pretty cool, they used overlapping turbidity currents (undersea mudslides, sort of) offshore from Mendocino to relatively constrain the time between Cascadia subduction earthquakes and San Andreas transform fault earthquakes. This gets around the inaccuracy of carbon dating.

I complain about them enough so let me just also say that when the Metro A Line is running well it’s fantastic. Yesterday and today, I made it from Azusa to work and back, door to door, in about 1:10 which would be impossible in a car in the afternoon.

lol this actually is a use case, every time your camera takes a photo it uploads a statement to a public blockchain that phone ID X took a picture with a hash of Y at timestamp Z, then if you want to use it as evidence you would show that your phone had ID X and the image matched the hash perfectly.

Even stupider is the Stoller line that big builders are hoarding lots (that happens upstream with the companies that do local entitlements, but obviously having a Byzantine land use planning system helps these companies, and it’s irrelevant in cities where it’s not about SFR master plan communities)

Eminent domain of Trump properties is the kind of fight fire with fire thing you could do. The state would almost certainly lose in court bc it wouldn’t be able to show the need but it’s very Trumpian to make someone spend their time & money in court to defeat a frivolous case.
