It was not immediately clear what the immigration status of those detained was, or whether the people detained included the restaurant’s owners or only workers. An eyewitness who declined to give a name for fear of retribution, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that four ICE agents sat in a booth for a meal at El Tapatio a little before 3 p.m. Staff at the restaurant were frightened, said the eyewitness, who shared pictures from the restaurant as well as video of the arrest. The arrest happened around 8:30 p.m. near a Lutheran church and Willmar Middle School as agents followed the workers after they closed up for the night. A handful of bystanders blew whistles and shouted at agents as they detained the people. “Would your mama be proud of you right now?” one of the bystanders asked.

🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.
By Douglas MacMillan When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the Jan. 3 death of detainee Geraldo Lunas Campos at a Texas detention camp, the agency said “staff observed him in distress,” and it gave no cause of death. An employee of El Paso County’s Office of the Medical Examiner told Lunas Campos’s daughter this week that, subject to results of a toxicology report, the office is likely to classify the death as a homicide, according to a recording of the conversation. In the recording, which the daughter shared with The Washington Post, the employee said a doctor there “is listing the preliminary cause of death as asphyxia due to neck and chest compression,” which means Lunas Campos did not get enough oxygen because of pressure on his neck and chest. Pending the results of a toxicology report, the staffer said on the recording, “our doctor is believing that we’re going to be listing the manner of death as homicide.” In an interview with The Post, Santos Jesus Flores, a man who says he was detained in the segregation unit the day Lunas Campos died, said he saw at least five guards struggling with Lunas Campos after he refused to enter the segregation unit, complaining that he didn’t have his medications. Flores said he saw guards choking Lunas Campos and heard Lunas Campos repeatedly saying, “No puedo respirar” — Spanish for “I can’t breathe.” Medical staff tried to resuscitate him for an hour, after which they took his body away, Flores said. “He said, ‘I cannot breathe, I cannot breathe.’ After that, we don’t hear his voice anymore and that’s it,” said Flores, who had contacted a family member of Lunas Campos, who in turn put him in touch with a Post reporter. The Post confirmed Flores was in Camp East Montana through ICE’s detainee locator.

At one point today, there were 283 Minnesota attorneys doing a training on how to file emergency habeas petitions to keep our neighbors from being shipped out of state and held indefinitely.

That would be the second largest law firm in the state. And that training was just put together this week.

Some of the stories in here are absolutely chilling. One US citizen of Somali descent was just riding an elevator with ICE agents and then they detained him for almost half an hour in the freezing cold despite him showing agents his passport card. They only let him go once protestors showed up.
Defendants’ Unlawful Detention of Ali Dahir 49. Ali Dahir is a U.S. citizen of Somali descent who has lived in the United States since 2001. He currently resides near Karmel Mall, in a neighborhood with a large Somali American population in Minneapolis. On December 2, 2025, Mr. Dahir was leaving his apartment when he observed uniformed officers wearing vests and masks knocking on doors in his building. Mr. Dahir was detained after sharing an elevator in his building—a building primarily housing residents of Somali and Latino descent—with the ICE agents. Mr. Dahir did not speak to or otherwise engage with the agents while in the elevator. When Mr. Dahir exited the elevator and walked outside, the agents followed him, called him over, and stopped him, saying that they needed to speak with him. 50. The agents took a picture of Mr. Dahir’s face with their phone and asked him for his identification. Mr. Dahir provided them with his Minnesota driver’s license. They asked Mr. Dahir if he was a U.S. citizen, and when he responded that he was, they demanded proof. Mr. Dahir provided his passport card, but the agents still did not let him leave. Instead, they took his driver’s license and passport card to their car. Mr. Dahir asked if he was free to go, but an officer said no because they were waiting for more information from their headquarters. The agents kept Mr. Dahir outside for at least 25 minutes in weather at or below 19 degrees Fahrenheit. When Mr. Dahir asked if he could leave to go to work, the agents told him he was not free to leave and threatened him with detention. 51. The agents also held a friend of Mr. Dahir’s. The ICE agents prevented Mr. Dahir and his friend from leaving until media and other people from the neighborhood started to gather, at which point one of the ICE agents stated, “It’s getting hot over here, let’s go, let’s go.”

In this context it is also worth noting that the quorum for both houses is 50%+1, wherever they may meet. If the Republicans and Trump's goons occupy the Capitol and refuse to seat a newly elected Democratic congress, they can just meet *literally anywhere,* meete quorum and be Congress.
