rules about nighttime “quiet hours” where like it’s considered an offense to disturb people by being loud after 10 pm or whatever should extend through 10 am, and they only don’t because our society thinks anyone still in bed at 7:15 is a morally weak person
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Ours just ran out of meat, in October. We are in full swing deer hunting season and that's usually when meat donations are highest.

If you have $20 they can buy 200+ pounds of food with that, or pay an employee who's about to lose their ACA subsidies
The look on my food bank manager’s face when I came back w/ the last haul of donations on Friday was one of profound disappointment & despair. For the first time in forever, we might not be able to feed our friends who rely on us. It’s devastating. Please donate to a local food bank. Like yesterday.

When we say “everyone should mask” we don’t actually expect people will. We know how selfish people are. But we say it because:

1) it’s factually true

2) if even a few people listen to us that’s a few more lives saved and, as the Talmud says, every life is a universe.

Hey everybody look at this disgusting piece of trash human who wants disabled people to completely exit society and doesn’t understand how community care works.

“Don’t expect the world to take care of you” is a depraved way to exist in society.

The thing that unifies so much of what is going on right now (besides the through thread of billionaires, who should not be allowed to exist) is how the dehumanizing language is being pushed hard at the government level.

The full quote from RFK, Jr. is truly disgusting and this is 100% him calling for institutionalization of autistic people. This is horrifying.

NEW from me: RFK Jr. made it clear at a press conference that he'd promote "environmental factors" (read: vaccines) as a cause of autism, and trotted out a new phrase, "epidemic denial," to label people who disagree with his interpretation of data. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
RFK Jr. Is using a new study on autism rates to push his anti-vaccine agenda
While researchers try to determine why autism rates seem to be rising, Kennedy made it clear he’ll try to put his thumb on the scale.

Today I went (masked within an inch of my life) to an aquarium for 45 min as it was emptying out for the day, as covid is low and the crowds were minimal. I feel like I inhabit the inverse of the world, like I’m haunting it like a ghost, going wherever people have just left, affecting nothing.

I have to make very sure that I don’t exhaust myself so that I can keep having that hour, and so I can go back to work when I get home. So most of my vacation isn’t vacation, it’s exactly like the rest of my life - sitting very still - because you never get a vacation from Long Covid.

And here’s another thing: even if your brain fog is not from long covid, there’s not a single pre-existing issue I had that didn’t get worse when I got long covid. So even if you’re absolutely positive you are unique and perfect and couldn’t possibly have LC, wanna know what’ll make it worse? Yeah.

The vaccines do not last very long and infection-acquired immunity doesn’t last very long and nothing has made the virus less deadly without protection, and everything we know about repeat infections suggest your risks of major problems continues to increase.

I really don’t understand why so many people are excited to die from Covid or live with long covid or watch their kids get it and see their lives collapse. Or even just get infected with every wave or two. I do not understand why that sounds good to anyone.

Instead, a new "risk-based" approach would focus on older adults and those with an underlying condition that risks severe disease

As I wrote in the piece, Kennedy continues to use stigmatizing and frankly pretty shocking language to refer to people with autism, implicitly framing them as a burden on society and their families who will, as he said, "never pay taxes" or "write a poem."
