Just another cat on the internet. I chew wires, fix things, and spend way too much time thinking about computers, airplanes, old cars, and safety. No, I’m not from Iceland, I just love the name.
It isn’t Friday anymore.

It’s not supposed to be exculpatory. It’s just supposed to be an excuse for people who have been taught to hate queers and leftists and brown people and who will not bother to think it through to say to themselves, “well our side has evidence, too”.

A GOP official snapped a creeper photo of a trans woman using the bathroom. She was charged with violating a Texas law banning recording in bathrooms.

She sued and has gotten slapped down in multiple courts.

Elon Musk, the CEO of a child porn site, is supporting her.

The platform is backing a Texas Republican party chair and calling it an issue of free speech.

Excellent, damning analysis of the video of the killing of Ms Good, from the NYT, including a quick debunking of the “evidence” the President showed other Times reporters last night.

An analysis of footage from three camera angles shows that the motorist was driving away from — not toward — a federal officer when he opened fire.

I recommend submitting a complaint.

Really good popular press article on “self-driving” (nope) cars:

We Still Don’t Know if Robotaxis Are Safer Than Human Drivers
And even if self-driving technology proves to be less dangerous, there are many better ways to improve traffic safety and prevent fatal crashes.

Where the hell are Google and Apple enforcing their app store terms of service on X? Grok doing CSAM should instantly be a removal from the app store. Any other app doing this would be pulled instantly. Journalists should be asking for comment from these companies.

X, the child porn company formerly known as Twitter, is now removing the clothes of women and children with photos on the site on behalf of its users. I first joined Twitter in December 2015. Deeply ...

I just read about the University of Virginia trialling “AI teaching assistants” in not-quite-real courses. Gaaah.

It’s becoming clear there are two paths: provide cheap AI slop for the masses, or provide a real education for a select few elites. Apparently UVA is looking down the low road.

Feeling better and better about having sworn off TurboTax years ago.

Seriously, though, what the actual €£#^???
First CES panel. Intuit CMO Thomas Ranese is proud of his company's integration with OpenAI, which involves giving AI read/write access to tax data. Since prompt injection attacks are unavoidable, I asked him who will be liable when customer data is exposed: Intuit, OpenAI, etc?

He had no idea.

I have a bit of a problem with the idea that US government “worked” until the Gingrich era shitweasels started ignoring the interests of the country to focus on amassing power.

Quite a lot of folks would take issue with “works,” from native Americans and enslaved people on down the line.

If the USA wants to remove autocrats ruling with questionable legitimacy, perhaps it ought to start with the one in the Oval Office who violates clause 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

When I do the box chaos event,
I’ll chat with parents at the edge of the room watching kids have fun. “It looks like so much fun,” they’ll say. “You could join in,” I remind them. Few do, even when they can’t hide that they want to.

Why do we kill the kids within us???
January 4, 2026 at 10:42 PM
Psst. You wanna know a secret?

Remember when you were a kid and playing in boxes was fun?

It still is.

I put on a box chaos event for furries every year. Dozens and dozens of (reused) boxes: 2 m^3 when flattened. Box forts destroyed seconds after we open the ballroom doors. It’s a blast.
