I would say anti-Trump Republicans/former Republicans looking at MTG at this point and believing she “stands for liberal democracy” is a great window into how they let themselves get duped into handing the Republican party over to incompetent aspiring fascists.
And if you refuse to give someone credit for standing for liberal democracy just because they don’t agree with your policy preferences, you’re missing the big picture. www.thebulwark.com/p/why-marjor...

The whole of politics is contested pain through policy. If you like that MTG did transphobia through a bill you're my enemy, but at least be honest enough to say you're happy with the process because you find the outcome to be good or neutral. medium.com/@cd_hooks/st...

Yeah, this idea gets resurrected on campus every few years I feel like.
Wait a minute, a 1975 non-binding plebiscite among the student body showed that students wanted Stanford's athletic teams to be called...the Robber Barons?

Bari wouldn't know this because she's never published a genuine scoop in her life and her exclusives consist of "check out what my rich friends said to me... by the way, we're friends, did I say that already?" Calling Weiss unqualified for her job is putting it gently.

None of these people are actual "nerds," none of them have any real technical abilities or non-standard interests. The only thing they bring to the table is social license to say stuff like "what if there was a doorbell camera with a gun in it"

What is morally, practically, and electorally the right thing to do is often not allowed by law, frequently by design by those who hold the levers of power.

But someone has to be the person to take the risk to make the world better, even if they don't live to see it. That's civil disobedience.

Former head of trust and safety at Twitter, Yoel Roth, demonstrating the intellectual dishonesty of “In Covid’s Wake” by showing how they distorted his own words to make them say the opposite of what he was arguing.
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Bari’s complaint was “there’s nothing new here” and while that’s untrue it’s also irrelevant

“we intentionally sent people to be tortured in a hellhole and bragged about it and The Hague is too good for everyone involved” is a story that simply cannot be told enough

This has been made available, so for purposes of commenting on Bari Weiss's decision to spike the story, here's a live-post of that segment.

It begins with a "you may recall" summary of the deportation to el Salvador. Describes the admin's claim that it could deport the men without due process

!! Here’s a link to full video of the 60 Minutes segment that Bari Weiss killed last minute, via @jasonparis.bsky.social:

The segment seems to contradict Bari’s assertion that the Trump administration didn’t respond to request for comment. Per the report, 60 Minutes reached out to DHS who declined a request for an interview and referred all questions about CECOT to El Salvador.

And here’s a free link to the NYT piece on the 60 Minutes disaster.

Bari Weiss thinks CBS reporters can’t get Stephen Miller to talk to them because they don’t have his phone number.

And she doesn’t know how to use a dictionary.
