I would love to hear Bessent’s response! What’s good for the goose…should never ever be deployed by the gander against the goose?
One thing I haven't heard Bessent asked is this: If you think higher tariffs will benefit the US economy, do you also think other low tariff economies would benefit from raising tariffs? In your view, would it be in the interest of foreign governments to raise their own tariffs?
GEIST: Do you think tariffs help or hurt prices for consumers in this country?

BESSENT: I think tariffs help consumers

GEIST: Do you believe tariffs are a tax on consumers?

BESSENT: I do not believe tariffs are a tax on consumers

This is an excellent explainer of the effects of tariff increases and policy uncertainty on the garment industry.
Tariffs are also making inputs more expensive, such as quality fabrics. And while we confuse our trading partners with constantly changing trade policies, they are forming free trade agreements between themselves. Andrew of 3sixteen explains:

Apparently our weather models have been too good! Time to dumb them down. Yikes.
By definition, numerical weather models require international data. The atmosphere knows no geopolitical boundaries: any model that begins and ends at its country’s border is unable to generate reliable predictions until after a weather system crosses its boundaries. Which defeats the purpose!

If walking costs you $1, we all pay $0.01. If biking costs you $1, we all pay $0.08. If bussing costs you $1, we all pay $1.50. If driving costs you $1, we all pay $9.20. Via study that still underestimates climate cost.

This isn’t about choice. It’s about who pays for your choice.
