Glasgow is seeing a boom in active travel, with 4.65 million cycling trips recorded between January and August this year - a 43% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

An investigation is underway after a 29-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a van being driven on Prestonfield Avenue. The van driver failed to stop, and police have issued an appeal to trace the driver and vehicle. The man was taken to hospital where his current condition is unknown. The road was closed to facilitate the investigation. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.40pm on Friday, 26 September, 2025, we were called to a report of a 29-year-old man struck by a van on Prestonfield Avenue, Edinburgh which failed to stop. "Emergency services attended and he was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. "Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver and the vehicle involved."

One of the highlights of this year’s Festival of Politics was a wide-ranging ‘In Conversation’ session with the social geographer Danny Dorling, currently 1971 Professor of Geography at the University of Oxford. The well-attended event was organised in collaboration with the Edinburgh Futures Institute and the David Hume Institute. The event took place in the Debating Chamber of the Scottish Parliament, with Liam McArthur MSP, Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, chairing the event.
