One difference between an academic monograph aimed at a specialty audience and a trade history aimed at a general audience is that in the former, if you have 20 examples of something, you should probably give all 20. In the latter, 3 is fine. Everyone gets the point.

The ebook of ALOHA FROM HELL, the third Sandman Slim novel, is still just $1.99. When I wrote it I wasn't sure my publisher would want the series to continue. But the books sold well enough that they let me complete my giant 12 book arc. Thank you all!

The only time debate is a remotely interesting medium for the exchange of ideas is when the participants agree with each other at least 80% about whatever’s being discussed.

I shall imagine all the Qs in this Q&A as being posed by James Lipton. And *I* shall be Bradley Cooper, both baby acting student Bradley posing a question, and older acTOR Bradley, doing a proverbial victory lap and projecting false modesty.

After nearly two weeks of spending time in Bluesky, I have to say that this is probably one of my favorites.

Gone are the days where I have to worry about people's reactions to what I post or if I share updates about my other interests.

It truly makes me feel like the community is alive here. 🫶

Its a char siu pork thread! 🧵 :) (Up-front warning: I have ZERO expertise in this cuisine. I eat it greedily when we're up in town. But I spent the last week or so background-watching YouTube videos of kitchen work in Japanese and Chinese restaurants, and saw a LOT of this, and wanted some.) (1/n)

Lovecraft is so weird because he’ll write the most cosmically intense scenarios with the sickest vibes and then you realize it’s a metaphor for being terrified by an Italian he saw crossing the street

As an author, I know that piracy will always exist. I know many people justify it as "sticking it to the man," even though piracy impacts individual authors worse than it will ever impact big publishers.

But for gods' sake, do not contact the authors whose work you steal & ask them to absolve you!

I just finished my first week of teaching in Nunavut. And I am almost delirious with the feeling of positivity at my (7-12) school. I’ve been struggling to articulate to myself what exactly it is about the place that makes it feel that way.

Intriguing fact I just learned from Black Tudors (excellent book btw): in the first half of the 16th century we have more recorded instances of black people in Scotland than in England. Five in James IV's court alone!
