Total federal spending is up +8% in 2025 year-to-date on April 9 over 2024.

The illusion that the fed govt is tightening its belt is contradicted by its own real-time expenditure data. Admin spectacularly hammering some things but raising spending elsewhere.

Was -7% just after Inauguration Day.

I wonder if so many Christians are wildly paranoid because their worldview never gives them privacy.

If you believe your every thought is being surveilled by an all-powerful disciplinarian, that's gonna fuck you up, right?

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

DEI is fascistcode for “the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

That’s what’s under attack.

Don’t let them lull you into thinking that it’s “only” policies aimed at addressing the white patriarchal ableist mediocrity that has been our nation’s default and giving others an equitable shot.

(“Only,” ha.)
Aside from The Noah being a full time fascism apologist, it will always be hilarious to me that DEI—which in practice has mostly consisted of motivational posters mildly suggesting the most reserved incrementalism imaginable—represents the bedrock of fascist claims to legitimacy.

Thinking more about this, I think it’s really important we give space, but meaningfully differentiate, the valid feeling of wanting people who harmed you to suffer, and the actual belief that objectively the government should be allowed to make them suffer
I think a lot of people misunderstand the argument that even terrible people deserve human rights. The thing about human rights is that if you decide certain people get it and certain people don’t, you can’t always control who makes that decision.
