The UK did have one standout product that was considered globally valuable- universities- and unilaterally decided to stop providing the product because it was more important to be xenophobic than successful
The UK’s economic problems are quite deep-rooted. The best summary I can offer is “we don’t make enough valuable, productive stuff and sell it to the world any more”.
Things like planning and energy no doubt play a role in that - but I don’t think they’re enough to fix it on their own

"The white working class" is a deeply insidious term that turns class issues into racial ones, dividing working-class people against each other and obscuring our shared interests. Anyone who uses it is a scab cunt.

Every single Afghan whose life was put at increased risk due to this data leak should automatically have their asylum claim in the UK facilitated and expedited. There is no defence for denying them asylum.

Trying to get appropriate wedding guest attire for a winter wedding. This is the first winter wedding I will attend and I am bricking it. Usually I just get a nice dress and have done with it, but it’s gonna be cold as a witch’s titty how can I get thermals with style?

“Gender critical” by ensuring gender presentation and gender roles are policed. Slow hand clap to all involved
This is the end result of anti-trans bigotry: more harassment of girls and women, more policing of gender roles, more gender McCarthyism.

The police (wrongly) inform a peaceful protestor that holding a Palestinian flag and signs deploring genocide is an offence under the Terrorism Act. This is the deranged policing environment the government has created.
Police in Canterbury today informed a protestor that the phrase "Israel is committing genocide in Gaza" could be considered a declaration of support for Palestine Action and therefore a terrorism offence.

Told a senior at work I had ethical concerns about the use of AI. I know they are all for adoption, but I stood my ground and imagined myself a proud Luddite. Why hand over the spark inside the human mind to a machine? Can you truly mechanise wisdom?

One of the great myths of 19th century British moral superiority, post-abolition of slavery. We exploited the Africans the Navy 'saved'. None of them went home.

Looking forward to @drjohnaeharris.bsky.social new book.
Around 200,000 captives were intercepted aboard illegal transatlantic slave ships in the 1800s, mostly by the British navy

I wrote about this history in The Last Slave Ships but Jake Richards’ forthcoming book is the one you want to check out

Trump regime tweets this wordless video—nothing but the hum of an engine & the clanking of chains—comprised of closeup shots of a human being shackled for deportation. This is, no hyperbole, fascist fetish porn.

Trump just issued an executive order titled: ADDRESSING EGREGIOUS ACTIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA

It says "the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation"
