Once again, the dot com bubble did not burst because the internet is useless. It burst because of what brain-dead business people believed about the internet. If you believe this paper proves that AI-dominated work forces are the future, then I have a pets.com to sell you

psst, no one is struggling with this - we are trying to create singular things that resonate with a huge audience or resonate hugely with a specific audience. We "struggle" with how tech and VC funding has broken almost every creative economy we have. So thanks but no thanks

Klein's "Charlie Kirk was doing politics the right way" line is particularly telling here. It had nothing to do with the facts of Kirk's life and actions, and everything to do with belief. If Kirk *wasn't* doing politics the right way, Klein's own interactions with him seem naive and foolish.

“old girlfriends”
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

A lot of the world today is downstream of the DC press corps’ frustration in the summer of 2000 with voters who failed to understand that they were not supposed to like Al Gore because of his association with Bill Clinton (who they also incorrectly failed to dislike)
They liked Trump and wanted to help him. I don't believe The Powers That Be actually thought Trump could win in 2016 or wanted that - their goal was to prop him up and damage Clinton enough to guarantee she wouldn't enter office with control of Congress.
At the same time the New York Times was running nonstop stories on Hillary's email server, they were sitting on this emails (and photos of Trump with Epstein victims, apparently).

It just wasn't a big, newsworthy deal like, for instance, the college applications of a mayoral candidate to a school he didn't get into or attend.
To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?
“would you like photos of donald and girls in bikinis in my kitchen?” -Jeffrey Epstein

The American penny died on Wednesday in Philadelphia. It was 232. The cause was irrelevance and expensiveness, the Treasury Department said. Nothing could be bought any more with a penny, as the cost to mint the penny had risen to more than 3 cents. nyti.ms/48bFd5K
