Hello,
I've been feeling rather
sad/furious/scared/exhausted/broken/isolated
of late, and with little I want to share of my own work, I've been reposting other people's: art, photography, nature, books. It's good to see people out there making things 💙

A close up photograph of the word 'lost' inscribed on a memorial at the Necropolis in Glasgow - photo by me. The stone is grey flecked with orange yellow, which is perhaps a type of lichen. The word is all lower case and black in the indent of the carving.

#WIPWednesday • I worked mostly on texture this week which might not be obvious in the photo but is obvious to me! #embroidery
Lia’s fingers show a wooden embroidery hoop with a trapezoid of black on black whipped backstitch that looks a bit like flames, but if you’ve been following this piece you’ll know it’s pubic hair. It’s definitely pubic hair. The trapezoid is 14cm wide along the top, 7cm wide along the bottom, and 8cm tall. There’s white chalk markings within the hairs. An hourglass-shaped needle minder that reads “this is taking forever” is attached to the cloth.

Fierce winds drive off snow & ice from the peaks of Paine Grande in Patagonia's Torres del Paine. There is a whole world of drama & grandeur to be found far above in the peaks of mountains, & especially so for Patagonia!

An unfocused blazed out shot - black in foreground, ultramarine blue above horizon, centre a flash of white yellow - the harvest moon rising up over the hill behind silhouettes of branches.

You know, I was in Portland a couple of weeks ago for a good stretch of time. I have friends and family in Portland that I know and love. It was about as far from a war zone as I could imagine. It was quiet and peaceful. I got lots of work done. Ate at some great restaurants. Had some good beer.

In a bit of an artistic block. Not worried though, like I used to be, it is just a shift in direction usually. Waiting it out is resulting in frantic gardening, cleaning and cooking.

Painting titled Brainwave.
Brainwave painting, wiggly worms of light revealing a face.

Andy is stood with a paint brush, spot checking a painting for stray scratches and marks.

The view is of a white room -white floorboards and white painted walls and ceiling - the archetypal white gallery. There are 2 paintings . A large, intensely blue painting, aview of a streetlights with an intensely dark blue sky behind it.

Andy is touching up a much smaller painting very definitely containing a similar hue and toned dark sky, but the rest of the details are obscured.

Thanks to our brilliant volunteers, we’ve collected over 50kg of hazelnuts this year! 🌰

Hazel is a key #rainforest species - one of the first to establish in the west after the last Ice Age, 10,000 years ago.

We're working with @wtscotsocial.bsky.social to boost the availability of native trees

Ladies and gentlepuffins we are floating in space.
One small step for puffin, one giant leap for puffinkind, with more Jill McDonald joy for my Sputnik Sweethearts.
Colourful cartoon cover of a 1968 Puffin Post magazine, in which a pink space rocket emits fierce fiery jets of flame from three booster rockets which are powering it.
The rocket is patterned in black flowers and orange pink and yellow zigzags speeds through a black starry sky with a big shiny sliver satellite spinning through space.
The rocket is crewed by three puffins in yellow space suits sitting at porthole windows and three on space walks outside tethered to the rocket by squiggly blue cables.
Above it, another rocket, this one striped red and yellow zooms across bearing the title Puffin Post in white, hand drawn capital letters outlined in black.
The style of the illustration is very much 1960s psychedelia for primary children and it gives a real sense of an unfolding scene in motion

A photo of a paper and string weaving. The warp is natural-colored cotton string and the weft is mostly blues and teals papers that I’ve painted, and/or drawn on, or are pieces from my journals I’ve printed and cut up, or are fancy store bought art papers. It’s laying on a piece of cabbage eco-dyed paper.
