back in 2023 my remote job, based out of Palo Alto and heavily staffed with c-grade Stanford types had a mandatory onsite (where they gave me COVID). A project manager expressed her doubts about SBF's guilt based on knowing his parents, to which I said then and say now: lmfao
I am starting to think this family might not have high ethical standards

this is the same shit they're trying to pull with code btw, "velocity is all that matters". who wants a home-made birthday cake that takes 2 hours to make when the slopotron 3000 can eject 2 kilotons of recycled food-like substance into your home in two minutes

yeah I turned that shit off when they tried to do a silly zany scene where the kid who was forcibly separated from his mom gets told to drop and give me 20 because his anger about that is just teen angst and not to be taken seriously. jarring tonal shift and pretty rancid
So I'm 30 min into Starfleet Academy.

Trek is fascinating for many reasons but one is how it aspires to model a future beyond our worst social prejudices & power dynamics — but relies on tropes that are steeped in those same elements.

it absolutely rocks being one of the most junior people on a very top-heavy team consisting largely of middle-aged white dudes whose only jobs have been at ZIRP companies which have never had to deliver a single thing
