It’s maddening. Screenshots of the first post have hundreds of retweets, tens of thousands of likes. Meanwhile almost noone reads the full claim. They just come tell me to die or whatever. The screenshotters do this intentionally but no one really cares as long as they get to be cathartically angry

People have been attacking me for two consecutive days because their friends screenshotted the first tweet in my thread and deleted the rest of it, where I said:
-I am very skeptical of THE GENERAL CLAIM that campaigns should be charities
-Kat’s campaign may be rich enough to pull it off

Sometimes it feels like “nuance is lost on social media” is deployed not as a cautionary note to read more carefully, but as an excuse to read less carefully

“How can I be expected to respond to a concept that is not fully articulated until three sentences in” is pretty blackpilling, re: social media pulverizing everyone’s willingness to even try to engage in nuanced thought
You structured your posts this way to get the reaction you wanted. You know what you are doing

“You’re only useful to us as the persona we created to abuse for our own enjoyment” - usually you guys are a little less explicit about it, I’ll admit
Guy, i think you need to accept that no one cares about you beyond your persona as the idiot who says dumb stuff and has a victim complex (aside from your family and friends, i’m sure). You aren’t a towering intellectual, so no one is going to treat you as if you are one

“We are allowed to continually misrepresent you for the game of the ritualized dunking that is our only real interest in this site, and if you can’t stop us, that’s your fault.”

Context collapse is a familiar concept but what people overlook is that it’s usually done intentionally
No one is forcing you to post here and forcing you to get mad. You can get over it, get lost, or get better at articulating your thoughts in a succinct manner. Or you could keep getting pissy that no one recognizes what a special little nuanced guy you are. Whatever works!

I don’t think this perspective is good for you as a person or us as a society
It's a microblogging platform, dude. People aren't here to read 6x250-character threads. If you want your nuanced takes to be read with nuance, get a Substack. Otherwise figure out how to fit it into 3 sentences.

It really is crazy that the president has engineered a situation where the US government pays his companies tons of money whenever he goes on vacation, and now he just goes on vacation endlessly www.howtoreadthisch.art/president-ho...

We cannot take the midterms for granted. We all need to vote, volunteer and donate to Democratic campaigns.
We need to fight like it's our last election because it very well could be.
And sadly, the midterms may not happen if Trump declares martial law.

I’m curious where this kind of overconfidence comes from.

To me, most likely case is still that Republicans hold the senate, the MAGAfication of the judiciary continues, and threats to the rule of law escalate.

winning elections and exercising power
Man, if you don’t recognize the power of the message "even if we lose, the existence of this campaign still did some good in the world" then what do you even think politics is for?
It’s good Kamala Harris spent her money campaigning and not doing mutual aid! Generally we need candidates to try to win!

i genuinely want to continue this conversation, but the one thing which i think seems least clear to people is that the assertion by right-wing paramilitaries is that possession of weapons gives them an uncontested right to control what politics do and do not occur in their space.

i don't want to get on this guy too hard because this is genuinely good faith, but the thing about armed occupation is that you cannot apply the same amount of zeal as you would to Occupy. the reason that it didn't happen is that they were all very heavily armed and communicated that they would kill
I mean, sure, but Double Ruby Ridge, especially when someone is trying to provoke you into completing a trinity, isn't what we're calling "beating the allegations".

Applying the same amount of zeal as the Occupy protest removal is appropriate
