Letter to the FT that stingingly sums up Brexit and the shit creek we now find ourselves in.
A terrible idea (naive, prejudiced and uninformed) that has deeply divided us and left us poorer and less secure… but unwilling to face up to the damage we’ve done to ourselves. While the EU moves on.

This trend of publishing copium articles based on the output of LLMs is bonkers.

The Internet is awash with boosterism for crypto (based on nothing but hope number go up). It's no surprise that an LLM trained on that content would espouse that sentiment.

Any person or company that has a non-salaried income in excess of (say) $10m:

1. Must keep and publish quarterly accounts (not just publicly traded corporations). I'm looking at you OpenAI.

2. Any trading account they maintain must be publicly viewable in real-time.

3. Fines for failing 1 or 2.

Josh Brolin is magnificent in this. In fact he's great in everything.

The Goonies, No Country For Old Men, Sicario, Avengers (Thanos).

They pine for a theologically pure past; but they'd all be stoned to death for their transgressions.

The ultra-conservative Christians are the biggest hypocrites that ever existed. If they got their wish their monster would eat them immediately.
in 1st century Judea, the corners of every field had to be left for the poor to pick crops for themselves, every seventh year *all* of the crops from fields and vineyards and orchards belonged to the poor, and all debts of all types were cancelled every 50th year.

The emotional highs and lows of defragging.

Highs: seeing all those gaps disappear.

Lows: your hard drive clicks several times in a row.
remember defragmenting your hard drive? how virtuous you felt after an hour of that. "have you achieved anything today?" "you bet I have, look at this".

This is the same reason why the moon landing conspiracies are laughable. The number of people required to be sworn to secrecy would be too many.

Mitchell & Webb even did a comedy sketch about it...
If a big company with 10s of thousands of engineers is knowingly doing something insanely unethical, it leaks. This is almost impossible to stop.

The boomers aren't going to be around much longer. But younger Trump supporters are going to feel super weird in 10 - 20 years time when they're releasing books and movies about the time the USA went bonkers and evil.

Watched The Running Man (1987) with my son tonight, ready to go see the new one. He asked me in how many movies did Arnie say "I'll be back"?

I googled it. The Gemini AI results were wrong. Wikipedia was right.

Trump ignoring the suffering of others. Leavitt telling the patient that they didn't fall over, the democrats tipped over the White House.

The media brings on #MAGA Republicans to tell us that nothing happened except Trump brought in another 30 trillion dollars of investment.

Generating content (I only use that word as a catch-all) is an artistic endeavour.

The value is in well-constructed, hand-crafted, emotional and innovative experiences. Corporations miss the whole point of entertainment by trying to cut costs and corners.

Whenever you see reports of the financial potential and/or inevitable transformative impact of AI, it's worth reminding yourself of the McKinsey report from just three years ago that predicted that the metaverse would generate $5,000,000,000,000 of value by 2030.

Weird. People who fantasize that their cult ( #ai, #crypto, #hydrogen ) will eventually make skeptics eat humble pie.

If the skeptics were wrong they'll be living in a better world (apparently), get the benefits and be happy.

If the skeptics were right, you played a part in a con on humanity.

Then the AI industry should die.

The same politicians that want AI to save the economy are the same politicians trying to cut university funding for the "useless" degrees that produce artists to create the content AI uses.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
