The Catherine Connolly campaign has reignited my urge to learn Irish. I have the Now You're Talking book and tapes from 25 odd years ago, but of course no tape player. Someone has handily converted the tapes to audio files you can listen to here: www.tripswithkevin.com/irish-on-you... #speirgorm
Irish On Your Own - Trips With Kevin
The audio for the excellent book Irish On Your Own (also known as Now You're Talking).

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, "If this isn't nice, I don't know what is."

So that's it then. The biggest fish kill in the history of the State, and we're just going to move on, with no idea who or what caused it?

It would be better to label it a river kill.

Some major polluter is today breathing a sign of relief, while the river Blackwater remains half dead.

Oh man. I miss when propaganda felt a little inspirational 💀
Just watched MI8 (super fun)but made me think about the much used story line of the potus being the person with the most integrity who must be protected and deferred to as they have the final word as the nations moral arbiter in moments of crisis
and i started laughing

Wouldn't it be great if we could hand experienced, expert investigators large pots of money (congrats!) and let them focus their efforts on that study rather than expecting them to immediately start looking for more money? Do funders really believe the FTEs they are told? What are we doing?

Well I never... a rainbow appeared before sunrise, created just by the light of an orange and red glow in the east. There's a first time for everything. I've certainly never see such a thing before.

I'm trialling a new work schedule: I'll be working compressed hours in September, i.e. an hour longer Mon-Thu, and half-day on Fridays. Let's see how it goes. If you have any experience with this kind of work schedule, please share. What are common pitfalls/benefits & how well does it work for you?

Mariam Dagga, a journalist killed yesterday by the IDF left behind two sets of instructions: that her colleagues not cry at her funeral, and asked her 11-year-old son to make her proud.
Murdering journalists. Bombing hospitals. Causing a manmade famine. Slaughtering children. This horror has to end.

There's a REALLY quick and easy survey for the public consultation on the Basic Income for the Arts scheme - it only takes a few seconds, anyone can fill it in, and it could make a huge difference to arts workers in Ireland. Take a few ticks to places a few ticks here: ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/run...

If the Union is incapable of wielding such hard power as it has - and it’s strongest in trade and regulation - it has no shadow of hope of developing or wielding other more traditional tools of hard power in the defence of itself and its member states.

Seems like if you have as much money as Chan and Zuckerberg do, more money than thousands of people could spend in all their lifetimes, you should probably be able to find a way to make the world a better place rather than screwing over children who are already struggling
