A walk through a very rainy Sandwich town last night to see the Christmas tree and lights, now I’m getting into the spirit.

Happy Winter Solstice. What better way to mark it than baking a sourdough with organic regenerative flour, then watching the evenings slowly get lighter while the crust crackles as it cools? Simple rituals, well worth keeping. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾𖤓 ⋆⁺₊⋆ ˚🦋༘ #WinterSolstice

Raspberries now tucked in for overwintering with cardboard, hessian and a layer of woodchip. I’ll cut back the autumn-fruiting canes in January. The summer ones are still young, so they’ll stay as they are for now. #KitchenGarden 🔴

Been hunting high and low for Yukon Gold seed potatoes in the UK. No luck so far - not even Otter Farm @markdiacono.bsky.social , where I once found Amandine. Just read a Serious Eats piece explaining why Yukons are vanishing. Starting to make sense now.
Your "Yukon Gold" Potatoes Probably Aren't Yukons—Here's Why
Yukon Gold potatoes are getting harder to find. Here's why growers are moving away from them and which yellow varieties are taking their place.

Started this cake in early November (a bit later than last year). It's had a weekly cognac feed and is nicely boozy now. I’ll ice and dress it next week, ready for Christmas. Here's a quick snap from today’s spoonful. #ChristmasCake 🍽️⛄🎄🎁🥂👩‍🍳

Returning home on the London commute and chomping away on a bag of M&S prawn cocktail crisps - outrageously morish. 🤌

Bread baking drawer clear out and the tools set out on my favourite marble pastry board. Lames, scorers, and scrapers that still earn their keep.

The pallet compost bins are still evolving - next step is adding a corrugated roof to catch the rain, which we’re never short of here. This morning’s temperatures were encouraging: 50°C, 42°C, and 40°C across the three bays. Everything’s moving in the right direction. #allotment #kitchengarden

'Pine nut mouth' - it's a thing. On a train to London speaking with a woman who had this condition. I had to look it up -

Yesterday I visited my ma in Essex and we stopped by the Rayleigh Country Market. Came away with Seville marmalade, dark chocolate Florentines, coffee walnut cake, fruit cake and the list goes on...

I've always got time for Turkish Gozleme. I'll take mine with feta and spinach.

Garlic and autumn onions are settling in well - Kingsland Wight, Germidour, Solent Wight, Carcassonne Wight and Senshyu onions. The bed had green manure, seaweed and well-rotted muck. Good to see the prep from earlier in the year doing its job. #KitchenGarden 🧄🧅🌱

Dinner at Pham Sushi in London: soft shell crab, yellow tail and crunchy tuna nigiri before heading to the Barbican to see Carlos Alomar play. Looking forward to hearing his Bowie-era work from Low, Heroes and Lodger. 🍣 🎵

I got a little lazy with the parsley chopping but in my defense I’d been standing in the kitchen all day. 😂 Shrimps and grits with mushrooms. Mushrooms seem to be a controversy in this dish. 🍜🍽️

Very sad to hear of Skye Gyngell’s passing today. Her cooking has inspired me for years and her books remain a trusted reference. Her seasonal approach and distinctive style made her extraordinary. She will be missed. #SkyeGyngell

Briefly stopped by the allotment this morning and spotted a twin spider web strung with raindrops across the gate railings. At 8°C the chill made each bead stand out, a small reminder of how sharp the morning can be this time of year. #allotment 🕸️🕷️ྀི
