To be explicit, we executed a German U-Boat commander who said he had to sink lifesaving gear / “inadvertently” kill survivors because it might give away his position, thereby potentially resulting in the loss of his submarine.

We executed multiple members of that crew.
Heinz-Wilhelm Eck might have something to say about this one.

it’s vitally important for the future of this country that this wildly unpopular administration is tied directly to its enablers in congress and the courts and used to discredit the entire conservative movement

Earlier this month, ICE raided a racetrack in Wilder, Idaho and arrested 105 people.

Yesterday, a judge ordered at least 17 of them released from custody, saying ICE "failed utterly to articulate a legitimate interest in the Petitioner being detained." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

This is almost unreal incompetence.

Here's how this area of inquiry was discussed in Monday's opinion.

In short, this is the afterthought, the ~it couldn't be this, could it?~ moment in the opinion: "If this procedure did not take place, then the Court is in uncharted legal territory ..."

New — I wrote about the myriad ways journalism’s moral rot manifests, and how our crumbling institutions have created the conditions for it to fester:
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

There was an editorial from a failed Moscow, ID city council candidate whining about unfair it was for people to call on him to disavow his support from Wilson's church. And then you see (many, many) clips like this...
Pete Hegseth’s church is part of Wilson’s sect, and Hegseth has praised Wilson.
Christian Nationalist, Doug Wilson, confirms that children who don’t accept and follow their parent’s religious beliefs should be turned over to the State for capital punishment (be put to death). This fanaticism is real:

Calvin and Hobbes is one of a handful of pieces of art that I sort of expected to leave behind when I grew into adulthood but instead continue to point at in increasingly desperate ways to beg people to increase their humanity
Happy 40th birthday to Bill Waterson’s ‘Calvin and Hobbes’. A work of consummate, stubborn, human, and more-than-human art.

i'd say it did. the public put a group of thieves, vandals and extremists in office last november and they promptly went about destroying everything that might work to limit their ability to loot, steal and inflicting pain on the people they hate
This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

Also, to me, this book was good.
I read a lot.
It’s rare a book surprises me.
Even books I love.
This was an exception.
I cannot recommend it enough to lovers of literary horror.

The agreement to hold a vote on ACA subsidies is not a concession. It's worth literally nothing. It should be ignored when evaluating the merits of the deal
Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.
