It's exhausting. It's an Ouroboros of pure fucking bullshit. And ultimately it's not their money they're playing with, it's other people's money. Public employee pension funds.

A savvy politician with the requisite ambition could become tremendously popular overnight, relieve a ton of market pressure for their constituents, and create the legal basis for a massive transformation of the political-economic landscape into something more equitable, with just one weird trick
If you've ever wondered why tech bros keep trying to cram things down your throat that nobody wants, nobody asked for, could never turn a profit and never actually work, frankly -- this is why.

A lot of people are making a lot of money from "failure". If they weren't, they wouldn't keep doing it.

These ridiculous mega-projects like "datacenters in space" (doomed by thermodynamics) make a LOT more sense when you realize they're massive Ponzi schemes designed to transfer wealth from pension funds to VC's through "fee stacking."

It's the old Assets Under Management con. It should be illegal.

cannot emphasize enough how much this stuff does not belong in a security critical application like a browser. putting intermediaries between the user and the websites they visit should get you classed as malware

everyone's goal for 2026 should be getting into using RSS feeds & readers for updates on everyone's projects rather than relying on social media alone. I don't think "big, badly moderated forums where everyone hangs out and gets cranky" are working great for that.

I think if a single subsector of a single industry single-handedly spikes the price of electricity, they alone should be responsible for paying that increase in average cost.

I mean, I think worse things should happen to that industry, but this would be a good general rule to keep in perpetuity.

Pretty cool that everyone using LLMs to write code have finally cracked that problem that has gone unsolved for 50 years despite the industry making every effort to solve it: a general methodology for accurately quantifying programmer productivity

this is why I'm not persuaded by the hypothetical prospect of genAI rendering individual users more productive: I struggle to conceive of any level of such benefit that would be worth rendering *all media* fundamentally unreliable
this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

any public good that allows the rich to sidestep it isn't a public good but a poor people good, and the people in charge will make sure it is run at a corresponding level of service
Listen to Carl on this one: allowing a private opt-out system is not a common sense compromise, it is a poison pill that can only exist to weaken the long-term prospects of a public system. Public healthcare, no compromise.
Interesting how the rich guy who clearly hasn't thought much about this nevertheless intuits the primary weakness of a universal health care program that allows the private sector to continue - a problem that half the responses are in denial about or try to handwave away

Are you ok with rich people having access to the most expensive doctors and hospitals and you don't because the gov won't pay for it or they opted out of the Universal care program ?

Do you think it's right for doctors and nurses to only work for what they think is a living wage ?

As part of my new job, I am expected to watch professional darts tournaments, which I don’t mind at all, it’s actually a pretty exciting sport to spectate. But goddamn the PDC TV interstitial is annoying, they could stand to push the music loop longer than 15 seconds or at least not loop mid-measure
