it's crazy they're giving a tech writer saying everything is bullshit the kind of glossy photoshoot previously reserved for ppl like dicky spence, he's either really nailing it or they're doing this to make fun of him later
I chatted with the @financialtimes.com about my writing, the podcast, tech criticism, and being myself.

this is going to websites but inside a platform. what use are the platforms? (this is not an endorsement of "platforms")
my maybe controversial proposal is that we kill the feed on a lot of platforms. want to see if an account has posted something new? you have to go visit the account to check.

people who say there's no possibility of a more fair, just, and adequate world are lying. they're lazy. they may be malicious. we can fear what's behind a curtain more than we fear the worst thing we already know, but even the math tells us we should always switch to the door we haven't opened yet.

40 years ago today the movie Hackers was released. Definitely one of the best hacker movies out there. Sneakers of course being the best. :)

jokes about the confederacy are always funny, but you gotta think about it in terms of "Supernatural lasted 5x longer than the Confederacy", which is absolutely hysterical

People like Mace don't view these as the same because when they get facial feminization surgery it affirms their gender assignment; when trans women do it we transgress our assignment. It's not the health care they object to; it's the lives it helps trans people lead.
Sara Jacobs: "Filler is gender affirming care. Boob jobs is gender affirming care. Botox is gender affirming care. Lots of my colleagues have received gender affirming care and let me be clear, I think everyone should have access to the gender affirming care they need."

chalk another one up to "the charge of hypocrisy is a toothless specter" tbh
being of an age where i can remember monica lewinsky being the omnistory, something way worse involving way more powerful people just not landing the same way is basically impossible to process
I wrote about what I think is a genuinely revealing document of elite depravity and impunity. It is shocking and sickening. But it's also a crucial moment. We're about to see what happens when conspiracy theorists actually get what they asked for but it turns out not to be what they want.

i think that when the wrong people take credit for good things, it lets them use those good things to argue for their bad ideas. so i think "who gets credit?" is a salient question about political power building rather than "but i want MY name on the byline! 🥺😡"
As others have said, this is a great Ezra Klein piece on why the Democrats need to take drastic action and stop funding the government (gift link).

Yes, other people made the argument long ago, but we have to focus on fixing things and not who gets credit for it.

It's full steam ahead for NASA, according to Sean Duffy, the agency's acting administrator. During an internal employee town hall, Duffy warned of "letting safety be the enemy of progress" when it comes to winning the space race, according to a recording obtained by NBC News.

In short, such a broad sweeping determination by the federal government that everyone with gender dysphoria is "mentally incompetent" by virtue of being "mentally ill" would be a means of effectively purging trans people from society writ large and starting the process of mass institutionalization.

NARRATOR: The president does not, in fact, have any "right" to deploy armed forces on the streets of American cities in times of peace
Trump on sending troops to Chicago: "If the governor of Illinois would call me up, I would love to do it. Now, we're going to do it anyway. We have a right to do it. And that includes Baltimore."

I know, I know, but: The president of the US saying, literally, "we're going in" in reference to sending the military to an American city for no reason beyond terrorizing the local population should be the most immediately impeachable shit imaginable
