My oven is a pretty standard thing but it has this feature called "rapid preheat" where it will run both the broil and the bake elements together until it's within 50° of your target.

This feature is approximately 700X more useful and interesting than having it connected to the internet.

29 bollards will be installed: 21 of them on the I-205 path and 8 on the I-84 path. The I-205 project boundaries are from SE Holgate to Crystal Springs Boulevard. On I-84 the bollards will go in between NE 122nd and NE 181st (in Gresham).
ODOT will spend $450,000 to keep drivers off paths
The number of people illegally driving cars on the 205 path and other paths in the region has increased in the past decade.

I literally do this (transportation safety) for a living, my parents are proud and respect me for that, and yet I'm really really concerned about my ability to get my Dad to stop driving when he should (not that far off). This is going to be a massive challenge and shouldn't fall only to family.
Not just in Berkeley. Baby Boomers - a massive generation aging out of driving - are not going to give up the keys easily.
80+ year old drivers are as dangerous as 16-17 year old ones.

We really need to do something radically different in Berkeley.

In 2015 PDX bike commute rate was 7%. 37 people died from traffic violence.

In 2023 bike commute rate was 1.1% and 74 people died

I'm sure very few people know about this. Inmates in 43 states are charged a per diem cost for "room and board" ranging between $40 to hundreds of dollars. In some states you owe for every day of your original sentence EVEN IF YOU GET OUT EARLY.

this is absolutely right, it's a gleeful dehumanization that is both demonic and strategic
I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths
