one of the early birch pamphlets on this was titled 'fluoridation and truth decay'
In the 1960s the nutty far right decided fluoride in America’s drinking water was a communist plot, and in Omaha a big backer of banning it was our across-the-street neighbor Marge Lamp, mother of Ginni Lamp, future far-right nut Mrs. Clarence Thomas. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/02/u...
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Says Trump Will Seek to Remove Fluoride From Drinking Water
Donald J. Trump has said he would give Mr. Kennedy, a former rival who has long promoted unproven medical theories, a prominent health role if he wins.

"The humans caught in this ghostly loop cannot escape the past."

Elizabeth Friend has a GREAT story on North Carolina's version of the "vanishing hitchhiker" legend for Longreads, going deep on "Lydia's Bridge" and the true story behind it. Highly recommended Halloween reading:

obsessed with the fact that the triple jump was invented out of whole cloth for the modern olympics, bc ancient greek records report 15 meter jumps, and rather than assume *the greeks* were exaggerating for rhetorical effect, they figured that must be a cumulative effort & invented the triple jump

Neil Peart couldn't drum his way out of a paper bag
RIP, Joe Flaherty, one of the best to ever do it in sketch, on SCTV, and then so funny as Mr. Weir on Freaks and Geeks, you could see Linda Cardellini & John Francis Daley struggling to stay in character on what must have been the most usable takes. (Imagine how hard they laughed in the others.) 1/2
