Whenever I've heard the phrase "adhd/autism is a superpower," I've always understood it in the xman mutant way - your "cool" ability makes it difficult or impossible to integrate into average society, and some people will judge you just knowing you even have it. Which made sense to me.

First it was vaccines, now they come for... *checks notes* Tylenol?
Didn't know that Tylenol could possibly be linked to autism? 🧩 Recent lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson suggest otherwise. Stay informed, get advice from healthcare professionals, and find justice for affected families. 👪💼 #TylenolAutismLawsuit #DrugSafety

They never tell you how hard being an autistic individual is in a society that breaks you down so much that doing anything feels impossible and you make yourself feel like a useless burden. They never tell you the struggles, just yell at you to get over it and move on.

Neurodivergent support needs are real and important to address and accommodate, AND that doesn't make the underlying trait is pathological.

It's 100% possible to recognize different brains work in different ways without making a value judgment about whether one specific way is good or bad

One of the reasons I was denied ST Disability benefits was that I don't use delivery services for food... but every time I get things delivered, they get something wrong. I get that people who aren't me think getting "bonus" cheese or a more expensive product is NBD.

Hint: almost every thing you see advertised and you go “wow, that’s so lazy” is used meaningfully in a disabled person’s life.

I'm going ahead with all of this because I think some of you may don't understand or need to be told that when it comes to autistic friends we want directness. I'm gonna keep saying it to everybody I meet too just in case!

Nothing like seeing a fellow Autist making harmful statements implying there are high quality Autistics and low quality Autistics... attempting to engage in a calm, but serious conversation about it, and getting blocked. Smh.

Apparently the quality of we bsky Autistics is very low... anyone know where one can find the high quality Autistics?*

*sarcasm 100% intended.

You will never convince me otherwise... 😏
Gameshow contestants are almost always bubbly and eccentric. This is because TV producers fear autistic people and the powerful trivia they have amassed.

Woke up from a dream in which I had a complete meltdown when someone touched my arm.

...a sure sign I'm at the #AutisticBurnout stage where my life will implode at any moment if I don't make drastic changes now...

If only I had the energy and mental capacity to make changes.

So now that we've got DM's, here's a public service announcement:

If you send someone a message, be clear about your intent. Include some substance. Don't just send, "Hello." 🎈

We've done this song and dance several times, nobody wants to put in more effort than you, for the conversation YOU want.

Me, a middle-aged Autie in the midst of yet another prolonged period of burnout:
So there’s a lot of things that I love about being autistic but one of the things I HATE is my inability to gauge stress levels and tell where I’m at until I’m at or past my limit. I’ve gotten a lot better at it than I used to be but hooweee bob howdy I could still be better

Hey people. A friend was wondering if Autism Nova Scotia was a reputable org, or if they're like most Autism orgs. Their website seems okay, if a bit parent-focused.

Anyone have info/hearsay/experience?

I saw something about how ADHD is framed as being about how life is difficult for you, but the diagnosis process often focuses more on how you make life difficult for others. I think that sums up a lot of adverse experiences people have with institutions that are supposed to support them.

I was thinking about Autistic masking today and was like "It's kinda like putting on armor so you don't get hurt when you go out."

But when I'm tired it's more like having to wear a slightly damp sweater that smells like mold and cat pee.

This entire thread is great, but I cannot get over the casual dropping of:

"Like not the walking hate crime in a fancy hat but the..."

and moving on as if it's not among the best phrases ever utter/posted to differentiate between garbage humans and good homonym counterparts.
This might be the most autistic thing I've ever posted but I spoke with a cardinal today!

Like not the walking hate crime in a fancy hat but the bird kind of cardinal.

I'm trying to figure out how to apply a first contact approach like when Discovery met that extra-galactic alien society.

I'm in this skeet and I don't like it. 😏

Autism - doesn't like sudden unexpected change
ADHD - likes novelty
AuDHD theory - if I never make any plans, nothing can change last minute, and everything will be novel!
AuDHD reality - *never plans anything and never does anything*

Any other Autistic Dad's out there? I really loved Eric's book, "Were Not Broken," and want to boost this ask.
I'm looking to interview #ActuallyAutistic dads for my new book on #Autism and masculinity. My email is [email protected].

Them: "Sorry, I got off track. I don't remember my point..."

Me: "oh, no, I was following" *recounts the path of their story and how it related to the initial conversation, so they could retrace to remember their point*

Both: *make brief eye contact and simultaneously nod in mutual understanding*
Sometimes I'm in a social situation with a stranger and we smell the ADHD on each other and within a few minutes someone finds a way to say "just let your hair down." I don't know how to describe it, but I find the recognition very healing. We're rarely perceived accurately and then LIKED for it

Also interesting to see free speech framed as the right to speak without fear of being shamed or shunned. You should fear shame for being a bigot.
