Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

Senators like Kaine should resign mid-term, but insofar as they won’t, they ought to serve as archetypes for candidates who need to lose their primary elections. This kind of irresolute wimpiness ~entirely explains Democrats’ historically consequential failures in the Trump era.

part of that is listening in a deep way — in a way that you won’t capture with issue polling. you have to ask yourself what is the underlying concern? is it that voters have a firm view of, say, the deficit? or does the deficit represent a set of larger worries. if the latter, you speak to *that*.

Trump: "I'm delighted to announce this afternoon that the US will be taking a small portion of the hundreds of billions of dollars we receive in tariffs ... and we're going to be giving and providing it to the farmers in economic assistance. We love our farmers. The farmers like me ... $12 billion"

"Rebuild." Pssh. Look around you at the absolute wretched state of the US elite. Look at the sad, corporate-captured, power-worshiping media. Look at the distracted, deluded, increasingly spectacle-addicted US public. Look at the denuded, decrepit set of ideas allowed in our discourse. Look.

It really cannot be stressed enough that if we don’t have birthright citizenship we don’t have citizenship.

The only Americans who have any proof of citizenship are either naturalized adults or the tiny fraction of natural born citizens who are born abroad. Everyone else has birthright citizenship.
