Just some guy in the Chicago suburbs trying to make sense of it all
NYT Pitchbot has trained me that when I see "bad news" in the second sentence of a social media post, I expect it to say: "This coronal mass ejection stripped the atmosphere from nearby planets. Here's why that's bad news for Biden."
For the first time, astronomers have detected a coronal mass ejection from a star other than our Sun, and it was a big one – powerful enough to strip the atmosphere from nearby planets. That's bad news for the search for extraterrestrial life. Here's why: physicsworld.com/a/astronomer... 🧪⚛️🔭
Astronomers observe a coronal mass ejection from a distant star – Physics World
Burst from M-dwarf star could be powerful enough to strip the atmosphere of any planets that orbit it, with implications for the search for extraterrestrial life

The thing about paywalls is that I get that journalists need to be paid, but I can't subscribe to everything, and the negative reinforcement of a paywall makes me less likely to click on any link. "You've reached the end of your limit" you're right I have

There's a push in corporate America to "make do with less," and at a certain point it becomes more about making do and less about succeeding

For the record, my Spotify listening age is 21. But it's really just because I've stayed loyal to bands and singers around my own age or older who have released new music this decade

Went to see Chicago Lyric Opera's take on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I need a recorded version of that "Porcelina" arrangement

One funny thing about Stranger Things is that it took so long to make the final season that it became a teen show where the teens are played by adults

Being an elder millennial is having a random song from a random web series from early YouTube or pre-YouTube pop into your head at a random time

(We also had a phase where we overused the word “random”)

Prime Video fail on the Bears game today. Good thing it’s being shown on the local Fox station. That’s one thing the NFL does right – to generally allow local fans to watch on a broadcast network if the game is being shown elsewhere

I want another Muppets trilogy that rivals the first three movies. I would even pay a “ballroom” level of attention and write and direct
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

People always talk about Thanksgiving dinner as a gut-busting meal, but it’s really just a regular meal with a few more sides and dessert
What's your hottest Thanksgiving food take?

In the past week, there have been Bluesky memes for you to post a food from where you’re from, an album from when you were 13, now a movie based where you’re from… Not going to say it’s all data mining, but please be careful about what data mining info you share

🎶Suck it in, suck it in, suck it in
If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn
Make a desperate move or else you'll win
And then begin to see what you're doing to me
This MTV is not for free
It's so P.C., it's killing me
So, desperately, I sing to thee of love🎶
🎶Pick it, pack it, fire it up, come along
And take a hit from the bong
Put the blunt down just for a second
Don't get me wrong, it's not a new method
Inhale
Exhale 🎶

I think part of why Trump reacted the way he did to Mamdani because Mamdani is who he wanted his sons to be when they were in their early 30s: ambitious, fit, good-looking, sociable, successful

This is part of the Fox News War on Christmas
The amazing thing about this is that in the past Fox has led multi-day freakouts over people offering tips like this. Specifically, I remember them losing their minds over a HuffPost blog about reducing travel during Thanksgiving.
Fox guest on how to save money during the holidays:

"Remember, adults don't need gifts. Focus on the people in your life who are aged 3 to 18. Grandma doesn't need slippers. If they don't live by you, don't get them a gift."

every few years it's revealed that the NYT was sitting on information about some horrific thing that public knowledge of would have changed the country's course and for some reason a ton of people still give them money. you can play those games on other sites
