He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

I just read the new SPINAL TAP book and there’s a moment where Rob Reiner and the rest of the cast ask each other which projects will lead their obituary. Rob was sure “Meathead” was going to be the first line of his.

Tonight, everyone’s teeing off with “one of the greatest directing runs ever”

A beautuful thread about Rob Reiner.
I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

Dick Van Dyke worked very closely with Carl Reiner and young Rob would stop by the set. This is heartbreaking.

So we have two immigrant heroes. One in Australia who helped disarm one of the shooters and one in the US who helped track down the Brown U shooter. When a man stabbed several people in the UK, it was also an immigrant who disarmed him.

Weird that the Far Right keeps vilifying immigrants.

ICE pepper-sprayed this 1-year-old girl.

Once at the hospital, the doctor had to call in a poison control specialist.

They had never seen anyone that young pepper sprayed.

Another horrific story.

There's a joke about the origins of many Jewish holidays: "They tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat."

But some of us *were* killed in those days, and some were killed today.

This is a holiday about hope, persistence, and light shining when it shouldn't be possible.

May all the killing end.

And for the next 8 days, see and enjoy our lit menorahs.

The difference is not cultural or moral or social. It’s that Australia is a democracy, with electoral, legislative, & judicial that translate the preferences of majorities into policy.

We, too, could have those, but we have to stop ignoring the problem:

The anti-Semitic mass shooting in Australia will cause a national conversation and policy change. We know this because the 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to significant restrictions on guns.
The shooting at Brown will do nothing. We know this because it occurred on the anniversary of Sandy Hook.

This is devastating. My kids have been through school shooting lockdowns that left them in tears for days.

The core of America’s gun culture is the false idea the 2nd amendment means there is a right to a gun. That’s false. Rightwing judges—the Roberts Court in 2008 in Heller—invented a new 2A.
