great piece by @mattzollerseitz.bsky.social

It’s the latest in a series of roles that dissect the strong-silent-suffering men with codes in some of his earlier films, and showing how the codes themselves can destroy men or bring destruction to their world.

Strunk and White, The Elements of Style.
omg. Kat Abughazaleh just posted that if she's elected, she'll swear in on a copy of Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower.

If you were elected to public office (never mind whether you'd ever actually run), what book would you swear in on?

listen

we can all agree it's a misleading name

but for none of the "ooh we're so traditionalist" "oooh we're the only ones correctly interpreting ancient doctrine" Catholics in this administration to know that the Feast of the Immaculate Conception is about MARY being born without sin is banoonies
ok it’s legitimately funny that they can’t even throw red meat to Catholics without falling into heresy

Found out that the Astoria Column gets decorated with holiday lights and you can visit the park at night. It was very foggy, which was cool and not at all creepy or scary.

The film the still on the left is taken from made over *a billion dollars* in the theater; the film the still on the left is taken from was released eight months ago to become the biggest hit this year, and is STILL making money in theaters despite now being available on streaming and home media.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos says the streamer has no "opposition" to releasing Warner Bros. movies in theaters, but hints that "windows will evolve to be much more consumer friendly."

I'm planning a long weekend in Astoria. Recommendations for things to do, places to eat? Indoors stuff preferred. I'll stipulate I already know about the Tower and Goonies house.
