Trying to make my kids proud

“Collection of Handwritten Letters from Children in Detention Center” sounds like an exhibit in the Holocaust Museum.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

Write it down. Tell the story of this time in your own words. All too soon, people will try to re-write history, their own complicity in these horrors will be scrubbed away. But take a pen, take to the keyboard. And write. Remember for the rest of us.

Anyway, I wrote about a whole slew of reports saying that DHS is using abusive administrative subpoenas to track down Trump's online critics, show up at their door, and intimidate them...

And the "free speech warriors" who insisted Biden was censoring people online are somehow silent.

The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.

The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

Even after Trump is gone, the world will remember that he threatened to forcibly seize the territory of a peaceful democratic ally, and our institutions failed to immediately remove him. That makes US dangerously unreliable, not just one senile gangster.
His not being impeached by the end of the business day as a result of this threat is as much a problem as the threat itself. It’s not just Trump that the world has to worry about, it’s a GOP that supports him and Democrats who suck their thumbs and refuse to even discuss pushing to remove him

Better yet, disestablish all of DHS, and undo the nightmarish idiocies that we created in a panic 25 years ago. Reestablish the INS, get rid of ODNI, fix the damage from the Patriot Act, etc.

Stop the presses! Onion guy is pro impeachment!

Suggested headline: Dems again vote against impeachment, would rather focus on losing in other important policy areas.

Dem leadership all says the same thing: we can’t win impeachment right now, gonna focus on healthcare. Good job guys.
You have to go through Congress for anything resembling this type of war. Round up Massie and Paul types and have him removed. The people in this administration are on actual drugs and have insatiable bloodlust and bespoke mental illnesses. He has to go, and everybody with him.

You and your Democratic colleagues have not been doing what you need to do to force them to step up. Your fecklessness gives them cover.

It seems like Dem leadership is so afraid of GOP doing something right and getting political praise for it that you're making sure they don't get the opportunity.
If Congress is to survive as an institution, the Republican majority must join us exercising our power to hold this administration accountable for this flagrant violation of the constitution.

The Dem leadership has failed to react with conviction any time the outrage-meter against Trump was high enough to get R defections for impeachment. But never more than in the immediate after math of Jan. 6.
@raskin.house.gov @beyer.house.gov @schumer.senate.gov
Primaries are coming.
Underlying this was that Pelosi / Dem leadership immediately gave up on pursuing Jan 6 impeachment as a serious attempt to obtain conviction. No Republican managers was another aspect of that. Delaying the Senate trial was another.

Maybe would have failed anyway, but they decided not to really try.
I’m sorry, this is just not correct. There were members that wanted to impeach Trump on Jan. 6.

Many people said if you waited, GOP outrage would fade. It did.

Pelosi spent days only cautiously committing to impeach, and fussing around with absurd stuff like 25th Amendment remedies.

This Is so prevalent on BlueSky. Everything is a corporate exploitation story. There are so many productive observations that get stuck in the mental queue behind corporate exploitation. So much waste.
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

This is like predicting the rise of Trump halfway through his first term.
Bari Weiss’s The Free Press (now part of corporate media) is pushing this Ad on Musk’s X. It portrays Peter Thiel as some sort of savant.

So very easily manipulable. Abuse this weakness if you believe in defending the constitution.
Last month, playing tape of Charlie Kirk's words was enough to get people fired for the new category of anti-Kirkist hate speech.

This month, playing tape of Ronald Reagan's words is enough to spark a presidential tantrum and diplomatic breakdown.
