Bullseye from 60 Minutes journalist Sharyn Alfonsi in response to Bari Weiss: “If the administration’s refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a ‘kill switch’ for any reporting they find inconvenient.”

Snapshot: Rejecting the Regime's 'Kill Switch'
CBS News' Bari Weiss blocked a rigorous '60 Minutes' story about the brutal CECOT prison. This is not tolerable.

And now someone has uploaded a version that wasn't filmed off a TV.

There's also the torrent link there, which is probably the fastest way to download the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT if you want to save the file locally to your computer.

You cannot ever assume everyone is glued to your station and every other outlet 24/7. Everyone frequently has the same story - what makes great ones like 60 Minutes historically special are how they do it. Unique voices, exclusive video, story depth, etc.

Someone is in over their head and it shows.
Bari Weiss, cont'd: "I held that story because it wasn't ready. The story presented very powerful testimony of abuse in CECOT, but that testimony has already been reported... The public knows that Venezuelans have been subjected to horrific treatment in this prison... we simply need to do more."

“These men risked their lives to speak with us. We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their
stories. Abandoning them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism: giving voice to the voiceless.”
Per NY Times’s Michael Grynbaum on X, this is Sharyn Alfonsi’s email to her “60 Minutes” colleagues in full:

Here’s a gift link to this stunner Washpost story, quoting the 60 Minutes correspondent on the CECOT story, who accuses Bari Weiss of spiking the piece all because the Trump Administration wouldn’t comment.

“Government silence is a statement, not a VETO.”

‘60 Minutes’ correspondent says CBS’s Bari Weiss abruptly pulled segment on Trump deportations
CBS News pulled a ‘60 Minutes’ segment about a prison in El Salvador one day before it was set to air because the Trump administration declined to participate.

I keep thinking—as a historian—that it’s rare when doing research to find a politician who reveals his nasty innards so blatantly—with no sense of self or shame.

Future historians who didn’t live through this will be absolutely open-mouthed.
Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

I love when CBS has Iowa games because the broadcast crew is always so confused.

After years of Alabama, Georgia, etc. being exposed to Ferentz ball causes their brains to short circuit. But at least they give the wave its due.
