The Brilliant and Super Bright dyes really do need the Brilliant Stain buffers, but be aware that these buffers are mildly fluorescent, so leave them out if you don't need the dye, and titrate them down when you use them. For many antibodies you'll get better effect at 20-fold less (and cheaper)

Reform's ‘plan’ to revoke the legal status of millions of UK residents is morally abhorrent & economic madness

The public believe in fairness & mutual respect, not this cruel Trumpian policy that would leave us all poorer. We are not America - we must resist this dangerous turn in British politics.

Thousands of Londoners have indefinite leave to remain.

They have legal rights and are our friends, neighbours and colleagues, contributing hugely to our city.

Threatening to deport people living and working here legally is unacceptable.

For our #flowcytometry peeps, would you like to have a single fix/perm protocol that is optimised for everything? One that preserves fluorophores while allowing simultaneous TF and cytokine staining? How about 100-fold cheaper?

You got it:

How do your #linguistic, #economic & #gender backgrounds impact your #scientific productivity? @tatsuya-amano.bsky.social & co reveal that being a woman, a non-native English speaker, and from a low-income country is associated with a 70% reduction in productivity @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4n3RLRQ

This was such a great advice, Adrian. I went back over my budget and was able to identify our burn-rate & spotted a few transactions that shouldn’t have been charged to my grant. Everyone in the lab came together & helped me figure out a way to monitor expenses, so it was a great team exercise.

These amazing women are the first cohort of postdocs from the lab. Their enthusiasm & passion for science make this job worth doing. My gratitude goes out to them! @lydiabeckeriii.bsky.social

Lastly we have Jessica Costa, who joined us after completing a PhD in neuroscience in Portugal. She’s our “brain & behaviour” person. In the lab, Jessica is leading projects on sleep & memory regulation during infections, & more recently on intrauterine & perinatal neurodevelopment (stay tuned!) 4/5

Chloe Barnes @chloebarnes.bsky.social joined us after completing her doctoral studies with @lucyhjackson-j.bsky.social Chloe brings expertise in trypanosomes & gut immunology. In the lab, Chloe is investigating how chronic infection-induced gut inflammation alters the gut-brain axis. 3/5

Alice Costain joined me from Andrew MacDonald’s lab when I was setting up my lab. She brought a wealth of knowledge in parasitology and immunology, but most importantly, she helped me shake the imposter syndrome off (a bit at least!). She focusses on the role of B cells in neuroinflammation. 2/5
