The NYPL sent out info about their FY25 numbers. NYPL includes libraries in Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island. BPL and QPL are separate systems.

1. 12.9 million visitors across NYPL.
2. 17M in circulation.
3. 2.37M cardholders.
4. 93K programs for all ages.

Our libraries need increased funding.

Getting rough in higher ed. Rider U. in NJ (private, 4000 students) announced it is firing 25% of its faculty this month, raising teaching loads to a 4-4 (5-5 instructors, 3-3 for chairs), 14% salary cuts, ending retirement contributions, tuition remission, & sabbatical support.

When I went home to Mississippi last week, a Black farmer welcomed folks to pick greens from his land for free. It made me wonder whether other communities across the country were also giving back ahead of the holiday.
