Am I wrong, @sickoscommittee.org, that if Duke wins the ACC title game then we'd get Tulane (20) or North Texas (24) as the 4th highest rated conference champion and JMU (25, if they beat Troy) as fifth highest?

If that's correct, call me a Cameron Crazy because there'll be no bigger Duke booster

On the plus side, raising taxes on the wealthy (e.g. uncapping the social security payroll tax and instituting a wealth tax) actually does help pay for policies that the left wing wants to do.
Right, “Thanks to tariffs we can eliminate income taxes” is rhetoric you can use if you don’t actually care about policy. If you do, well, reality matters.
good thread

the core problem here is that Trump has been brutal but not remotely "efficient"

the secondary problem is that the left wants to build stuff and the right wants to break stuff and it's a lot easier to break stuff

Ok, but the Admiral should absolutely be brought up on charges for ordering murders and/or war crimes.
Breaking news: Government officials said they are increasingly concerned that the Trump administration intends to scapegoat the military officer who directed U.S. forces to kill survivors of a targeted strike on suspected drug smugglers in Latin America.
Hegseth, with White House help, tries to distance himself from boat strike fallout
As Congress vows accountability, the Trump administration emphasized it was a top military commander — not the defense secretary — who directed the engagement.

one reason "great power competition" is a bad description of the emerging order is that an interlinked global kleptocracy does not care about national interests or rivalries
Extraordinary WSJ reporting today that unveils the extent to which Trump, Witkoff, Kushner and US business executives are salivating over business deals with Russia while Putin’s forces kidnap Ukranian children and bomb civilians in their apartments.

They believe that Trump will use the formal powers of the government and whatever informal powers he may have to extract costs from them if they do not play ball and they equally believe that the anti-Trump coalition will not extract these costs.

So we need to extract those costs.
given how unpopular Trump is, it’s insane that civil society/universities/law firms are still asking themselves “how do I stay on Trump’s good side” rather than “how do I avoid facing consequences for complying with Trump’s illegal demands”
New Gallup poll shows Trump's approval hit a new low for his second term:
-36% approve
-60% disapprove

His approval among Republicans went from 91% in January to 84% in November

Meanwhile Ghislane Maxwell is given extra privileges in the least bad conditions a federal inmate can have.
Rejon Taylor was granted clemency by President Biden and taken off of federal death row last year. Trump officials are now sending him to a notoriously harsh supermax prison and Taylor says he wishes he was never granted clemency to begin with.

This is also why leftists need to join the party - so they can take over chunks of it and have their own base of power and get things done with it. It doesn't take that big a movement to establish a solid presence on the state level!
This is harmful to their goals in other ways. The way you get progressive policies enacted into law is to have a large enough majority in Congress that you can afford to lose a few members. There will always be a few Blue Dogs who oppose. But a larger majority opens the window of possibility.

there's a certain kind of leftist who sees these statements and posts "they're finally telling the truth it's a war for oil" when the real explanation is that they're saying it's a war for oil because Trump's precise mix of stupid and evil means he thinks war for oil is real, but good

They're challenging Schumer & Gillibrand's leadership, arguing the party is using an old, corporate-friendly playbook insufficient to take on Trump or win elections.
