Nearly a year in having burned a ridiculous amount of political capital to uphold it, now they decide it’s actually time to remove it when they’re probably going to do all sorts of other tax hikes and cuts. Absolute genius
NEW: Rachel Reeves signals she intends to remove the two-child cap *in full*

"I don't think a child should be penalised because they're in a bigger family through no fault of their own," she tells BBC.

One of the main reasons why Britain can’t have nice things now is because we had to set them on fire, to protect the careers of some of the worst people ever to serve in government and the shower of media twunts who faithfully repeated their bullshit. And they’re still going, now.

The main reason this is even an option for right wing wackos is that we mutilated and deformed the fuck out of the BBC, specifically to protect Alastair and Tony from the consequences of their choices and actions. We’re still doing that now, 20+ years later.

Incredible shit here: the man who provided the template for stomping on the BBC when it displeases malicious actors in politics, complaining that malicious actors in politics are using his template for stomping on the BBC for displeasing them.

Labour need an Mamdani moment in so far as they need to be electorally humiliated by a likeable and articulate socialist opponent.

I’d rather be let down by the Green Party actually *trying* to make our lives better because at least you could say they’ll have a go. We’ve been let down by Labour deliberately & intentionally making life in Britain harder & making crap excuses for punitive political choices
EXCL: The Green party is offering “simple solutions to complex problems” and making “undeliverable” promises to voters ahead of next election, PM's chief secretary Darren Jones tells me 👇

i genuinely find it creepy. a disciplinarian, anti intellectual, sadistic (& often masochistic) impulse hiding behind calls for politeness & civility. politics is not the correct arena in which to exercise these impulses. it is hurting & even killing people who did not & often cannot consent

I was just thinking this poppy season has been less OTT than it has been in recent years, at least locally
Honestly I hear more jokes about poppy police than I see or hear people lamenting a lack of observation. Like the flags, it’s a handful of people maintaining public displays of poppies and our press are compelled to keep it alive, but it all feels so hollow.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It's so fucking funny because this isn't a hostile interview. This is, like, superfan sycophant hour. And this amazing genius is still undone by the incredible tactic of asking "can you give me an example of the thing you just said?"

The sad thing is that I think that there is a need for an explicitly left wing organisation. The trouble is that yorp has been such a fiasco that there’s no hope of that happening anytime soon.

It shouldn't need to be explained to anyone, so soon after the Soldier F verdict, why Irish people might not want to be socially obliged to donate to a charity committed to uncritically commemorating all British wars, including Iraq and Northern Ireland, and financially supporting their veterans.
