as a kid growing up right-wing i regularly heard people express their desire for "a government so small I can drown it in the bathtub". imagine my surprise growing up to realize i was the only one who actually believed that.

The next unit of SHELVED BY GENRE is here: from now through when 2025 restarts at the end of the year, we're taking a long but not exhaustive look at "Alan Moore qua Alan Moore"—some early and later work, some major and some more marginal, all geared toward contemplating This Guy and His Deal.

Every Junji Ito anime adaptation showcases how comics aren't some throwaway stepping stone to animation and cinema, and that we should stop treating them as such. Comics, like prose novels, are their own medium that can convey things animation and video cannot.

I'm an animation guy and I'll always be an animation guy, but the idea that any given comic is just trapped in a lesser medium until it's animated is so offensive to me

Same, except also extends to the idea that B/W comics need to be colorized as soon as they become successful 🤢
Junji Ito isn’t cursed to forever have bad adaptations of his works, he’s cursed to be a master of his chosen medium. We’re only holding these shows to this high of a standard, because his concepts and images shock and scare due to the precise penmanship and pacing of his comics.

*taps sign* Read the comics, they don't need to be validated by shitty animated adaptations
I think this is the first time I've lived walking distance from a grocery store and I'm out of my mind about it. I'll walk there several times a day. Oh did I forget to grab something? No big deal I'll simply Walk To The Store

Figure skating world championships were considered to be for men only until 1902, when Madge Syers showed up and took home silver and the ISU went "whooooops guess we need to segregate them."
It happened again in 1992 Olympic skeet shooting: Zhang Shan took gold and then they segregated the event.
