GOP wants to remove women's right to vote. One bill requires citizens to have passport or birth certificate matching their name to vote. This would be a back-door ban on voting for any woman who took her husband's name & doesn't have a passport, an estimated 69m women.

Trump on crime: Put them in camps in El Salvador!

Trump on the homeless: Put them in camps outside the cities!

Trump on Gaza: Put them in camps in foreign countries!

I don't dunno, but there seems to be a common theme to all these final solutions.

People don't listen.

They seem so damn confident - and complacent - about the fact that 'that could never happen.'

Which is *exactly how it happens.*
Almost every pundit in Germany said that Germany’s conservatives would never work with the far-right AfD. And yet here we are. I remember when many of us warned about Farage getting a standing ovation in Berlin as the AfD’s honoured guest. And yet here we are. I just wish more people had listened.

If we define "Nazi" as an early 20th Century political/social movement then nobody is a Nazi. They're all dead.

But if you promote devout neo-Nazis, make Nazi salutes and espouse theories of ethnic purity and segregation, then you are whatever a Nazi would be called today.

the flaw in all this is that we are *not transparent even to ourselves* - is the guy who tells himself he's not a Nazi while throwing the Hitlergruß not the a Nazi!? We don't have time to waste investigating his ineffable self. Just go by what he does. It's much simpler

Just no.

The confusing and vague executive order underscores how complex sex is and why it’s hard to reduce it into a neat binary

We don’t choose which public services we fund, for good reason. Otherwise everyone pre-retirement could avoid paying for Super, able bodied people could keep their share of disability funding & so on. The “self fund or die” model might be Seymour’s utopia but it’s not mine.

The 'many people' who like license are basically the bullies.

Commentators like Rory Stewart @rory-stewart.bsky.social and Armando Iannucci @aiannucci.bsky.social have recently noted how much abuse they now get on X when posting critical comments.

This, apparently, is what 'free speech' now means.
These were the weeks in 1649 when John Milton was writing “The Tenure of Kings and Magistrates”, pointing out that many people love a tyrant because they love “not freedom, but license, which never hath more scope, or more indulgence than under tyrants”
