In the Trump cinematic universe, Musk is the goofball money bags rocket nerd, Steve Bannon is the guy radicalizing normies to build a geographically dispersed army of diehards, and Miller is his Roy Cohn…the utterly soulless killer you brandish as a threat, but don’t advertise too openly.

This is a plaque that Congress made to honor officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6.

It's been sitting in a storage room -- because Republicans haven't let it be installed.

I'm far less confident than @dhnexon.bsky.social on the possibility of constitutional amendments. But there's lots we can do to become an actual democracy/republic simply through normal legislation. Yes, we should abolish the Senate, get rid of presidentialism, & more, but that's not gonna happen.
- Enlarge the House
- Add DC/PR/USVI as states
- Multi-member districts
- Automatic universal voter registration
- A new VRA
- Adding seats to SCOTUS + term limits

Presidentialism was a mistake & amending our Constitution is ~impossible, but there are ways to make 🇺🇸 an actual multiparty democracy
The number of seats in Canada’s House of Commons is very close to the cube root of the country’s population, a tendency that is common in other democracies.

If the U.S. did that, the House would have nearly 700 members today instead of just 435, which is the same number it had in 1913

🧵 The platform needs to be

All of this, plus we must fix our electoral & legislative institutions so that we are not subject to permanent extreme minoritarian rule:

There is *no* Democratic politician and no "democratic trifecta" that will be able to, for example, rebuild the rule of law in two or four years. At least on its own. We need a sustained, long-term, campaign to change public views about (to name two things): [2]

The Trump-Supreme Court battle is not really the crisis.

The crisis is here now. Trump is enacting an insidious coordinated attack on our institutions of democratic accountability, designed to crater democracy before next fall.

The Musk/Trump junta is exploiting an utterly deadly loophole in the American system:

Courts may rule against evil white men, but evil white men have figured out that no one is, thus far, willing to *lay hands* on them to enforce those orders.

We must end this loophole now.
Someone must enforce the court orders against these baby-soft-handed terrorists.
what we’re seeing is that the courts are willing to rule against the government on certain things but there’s no one to actually enforce it.
