The Trump administration has a new mass deportation playbook.

We’ve seen it in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Charlotte. And it’s coming to more cities.

ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

Traditional American politics is premised on the notion that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win and you have to deal with that.

But Trumpism is premised on the notion that any result where you don’t win is illegitimate, unlawful, fraud, criminal.

You can’t negotiate with people like that.

Sorry but parking "cops" are good, unarmed civil servants rightly ensuring access to public spaces remain accessible. I own a car and almost never get parking tickets because I park correctly and in consideration of other people who need curbspace.
With “Find My Parking Cops,” technologist Riley Walz reverse engineered San Francisco’s parking ticket system to place cops on a map seconds after they issue parking citations—in theory, helping people avoid spots where officers are handing out tickets.

‘Find My Parking Cops’ Tracks Officers Handing Out Tickets All Around San Francisco
"Find My Parking Cops" pins the near-realtime locations of parking officers all over the city, and shows what they're issuing fines for, and how much.

I feel it's telling that apparently no one in his staff has told him how nonsensical this is.
Trump: "We're gonna reducing drug costs over the next year and a half by 1,000 percent."

Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.

In the blurring of memory that comes with time, it will fall on historians to point out that the deployment of the military to cities, the disappearances of student activists and immigrants, and the federal takeovers of policing all *preceeded*, not followed, the death of a demagogue.

I want to do a 🧵 about the Sidney Sweeney thing, because it's *extremely* revealing & educational.

First, to be clear: I could not give less of a shit about the details -- the ad, the rhetoric, the jeans, her boobs, whatever. Good lord, who cares.

Let's look at the *structure* of the episode.

Job growth has slowed down and instead of attacking the BLS, we should be talking about why.

It’s a mix of supply and demand shocks, but an unsurprising outcome given policy changes this year, including tariffs, less immigration, and gov't downsizing. stayathomemacro.substack.com/p/job-growth...

My take on "peak woke" discourse is always the same: that the people condemning "wokeness" were always a bigger problem than the things they were criticizing.

I think the Trump administration has basically vindicated my anti-anti-wokeness.

Child marriage is still prevalent across the U.S. Here’s why.

Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

What strikes me as the strange idea is the notion that all fights for justice are preemptively responsible for any backlash they may engender, and should (naturally) pre-surrender. History would look very different under this view. Choose justice. The only way out is through. We fight on.
Very strange this idea that what Trump et al are doing now means that people who criticized the “wokeness” that preceded him should now apologize for getting things wrong. It seems far more likely they got many things right and the prior moment paved the way for this one.
