ในวิทยุแต่ละชั่วโมงมันก็จะมีการจัดไว้ว่ามันต้องใส่เพลงอะไร โฆษณาอะไร จิงเกิ้ลคั่นรายการต่างๆ ซึ่ง ถ้าทั้งหมดรวมๆ กัน แล้วมันยังไม่จบชั่วโมงพอดี เราก็จะต้องหาเพลงสั้นๆ มาใส่ แปลว่า ถ้าเพลงคุณสั้น ก็มีโอกาสที่ดีเจจะเลือกมาเปิดบ่อย แต่ถ้าเหลือเวลาแบบไม่พอใส่เพลงอะไรเลย เราก็จะใส่ดนตรีบรรเลงแต๊วแหน่วๆ ไปจนกว่าจะหมดชั่วโมง

I think it's important to understand, Kubrick thought if you had to explain it to the audience? Then you shouldn't put it in your movie.
But he also believed it was ok, even desirable, if that meant you had to watch the movie several times to put it all together.

There's a reason Dave beats Hal. Hal, unlike Dave, is perfectly adapted to space. He does not need air, food, or water. He does not need gravity. He does not need to sleep. For all intense and purposes, he *is* the Discovery.
He could complete the mission alone.

My interpretation: first, man created tools; at this time, we controlled them and this elevated us above nature. In the future of the movie, the tools (aka HAL) control us. It is only by taking control back from the tools again that Dave is able to ascend and become a higher being.
