70% of the additional spending from removing the two-child limit will go to families who are in work. This is targeting support for low-income working households who are being priced out of a decent standard of living despite doing everything asked of them.

Good for him, Corbyn was “arrested for anti-apartheid activism”. Keir Starmer did legal work to bring Stephen Lawrence’s murderers to justice! It doesn’t make what he is *also* doing any better. (Or in both cases, it doesn’t make the earlier stuff any less worthwhile!)

The really bizarre thing about current Labour is that a "core vote" strategy would probably see them win in 2029...

I'm not sure why they think constant alienation of natural Labour supporter is a winning election strategy but they're committed to it and for that they deserve to lose in 2029.

I don't think I'll ever be able to articulate my profound disappointment at this government.

Owen does a good job of laying it in pretty stark terms.

The populist and fascist right can be defeated, but Labour are not the answer.

Donald Trump destroyed public service broadcasting in the US - it's little surprise Nigel Farage wants to do the same thing here.

Trump’s America, don’t let it become Farage’s Britain.

Not the first to make this point. But there is a tyrant in charge of another country who is accused of being heavily linked to a paedophile sex ring - and supposed ‘patriots’ in this country are passionately willing him to take down our national broadcaster. Madness.

Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

Nigel Farage doesn’t think the Prime Minister should have free speech in this country. But he’ll tell foreigners that yours is somehow under threat from the Prime Minister. He’s a whiny little liar. Always has been. Always will be.

The actual group moving most strongly to Reform are male Gen X-ers. We need more articles on how to deal with them.
Shot, chaser

Young men more likely to vote Green than Reform. Young men second most progressive group of any demographic. Combined right-wing vote barely bigger than Green vote alone for young men

So, let me get this straight…

Elon called for the overthrow of the British Government on Saturday.

If he were talking about the US government, then US officials would deny him entry to the US.

And we have a freedom of speech problem?

Clowns.

Two points worth noting on the Farage stuff today.

1. The Tories have completely ceded the August opportunity to get publicity when govt slows down to Reform. Nothing to suggest they're not headed fast towards oblivion.

2. Labour look even more lost than before. Paralysed with indecision and fear.

Really enjoy being patronised because I don’t have populist friends.

Boring 🥱
It's got to the stage where if 'you don't know anyone whose voting for Reform' you need to broaden your social circle.

Or, perhaps, reflect on what it is about your behaviour that means your friends don't feel able to be open with you about politics.

This normally opaque character thinks that other people’s bodily autonomy should be curtailed to avoid potential ‘misuse’. But not for abortions of for gender affirming surgery. No, they’re okay.

Interesting indeed… 🥱
Ah yes, just a Piss Diamond equating the potential misuse of the Assisted Dying process against disabled people with *checks notes* gender affirming surgery.

Is there no depth to which the Piss Diamond will not stoop?

(Spoiler: no, we learned that 2010-2015)
Yes, I can see why someone who supports trans liberation (as I do) would find the concept of other people having such autonomy to do with their bodies as they see fit a challenge.

Very morally and ethically consistent 🙄

This week has been a bad week for those out there who don’t like the concept of individual bodily autonomy.

Notice that the people most upset at the abortion decriminalisation and assisted dying bill are the same people who tell us that trans people are a risk to others.

It is extraordinary, but grimly inevitable, that the people most responsible for hobbling the UK have become the loudest & whiniest critics of the consequences of their own actions. A big part of the process lies in people like ‘Lord’ Hannan actually being *rewarded* for their ignorant delinquency.

there's apparently now a view in every right-leaning British publication that nothing ought to be done about the far right, ever - they should be able to say whatever they want and do whatever they want, yet remain untouchable, and it's becoming increasingly hard not to parse it as outright support
