I tear up every time I read this poem. It used to be because I was so proud of what this country strived to be - even if imperfectly. Now I cry because of what this country is becoming - cruel and corrupt. Nothing like the country my grandparents fled to. How will we find our way back?

Been very cold but Somali restaurant offers us delicious, warm tea constantly.
Members expressed much gratitude & confidence this ugly time will pass.

Talked to a Somali man today who said his mosque last night was surrounded by neighbors ready to protect them against ICE if needed. Made me feel proud to live in this city.
