This was exactly their proposal for the '24 election... It didn't work. It's a diet-conservative sentiment that tacks right when we need more labor power to bolster a failing party.
Immigration is simply a problem of paperwork. Just document them, there's no legal infringement, number go down.

I think Democrats should claim that they're going to make immigration tougher, and then simply describe a better version of system when asked about it. Polling consistently shows that the public wants to get tougher, and also that their version of tougher is *weaker than the actual system now.*

It's relevant because there hasn't been any real accountability so there's still reason to be suspicious of party leadership, it demonstrates the disregard and disdain they have for their own base and how skewed their priorities are, and even beyond that, it raises doubts about their ability to win.
