Apparently Schumer is troubled. I will sleep so much better tonight knowing that.
Schumer says Republican senators have "expressed a lot of troublesome comments about what Trump is doing and the way he is doing it" in conversations with Democratic senators today ...

In my seven-plus decades on earth, America has done some pretty awful and crazy shit for oil. Ho-hum I guess, some things never change.

Yes we know how seriously DJT supports legitimately elected presidents.
Remember that there is a legitimately elected president of Venezuela: Edmundo Gonzalez. He won the election in 2024.

Ah yes, what America definitely needs is more Ohio diner wisdom and perspective, we haven't had enough of that yet.
This isn't about democratizing the news. It's about elevating "vibes" and "feelings" to be on par with lived experience and subject-matter expertise.

Someone else will have to tell me how this works out for CBS, because I sure as shit ain't watching.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”

One great quote.
Mamdani: For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty

Megan McArdle is proof that along with lack of talent & lack of opportunity that what holds many of us back in life is the capacity to feel embarrassment.
Boycotting Constitution Hall because the DAR won’t let Marian Anderson sing has costs. It may end opera. Is that worth it? By Megan McArdle, 1939

Gotta admit, I do sometimes get tired of folks I follow sharing and commenting on screenshot s of people I don't care to hear about anymore. Good example: Matt Iglesias. Going to mute his name, see if that helps.

Well, we got Trump’s Gaza “ceasefire,” you know, the one where the firing never ceased. Now I can hardly wait for the Ukraine “peace” plan.

Does anyone still give a rat’s ass what Bill Ackman has to say about anything (if they ever did)?

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

The last sentence is hilarious: "Please let me know how I can support you." For starters, maybe show up for one of the fucking screenings.
Here's the rest of Bari Weiss' memo. "We do not present the administration's argument for why it sent 252 Venezuelans to CECOT," and on Sec. Noem's trip "no comment from her or her staff about what her goal on that trip was... or if she had or has concerns about the treatment of detainees." LOL!

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Well then. I am glad we at least agree that this is a desecration.
Rep. Russell Fry on Democrats criticizing Trump for illegally renaming the Kennedy Center: "I just find this incredibly rich coming from the party that spray paints monuments, desecrates memorials, tears down statues."

WELKER: Massie and Khanna say they are looking at options including impeachment and contempt for DOJ officials. Would you support those steps?

One cool dude (thread).
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.
