It's true that I grew up poor and any wealth I have starts with me. It's also true:

2. Who went (on scholarship) to one of the best high schools in America, and then an elite university
3. Writes in a genre exceedingly welcoming to him
4. Who also got lucky as fuck.

Not just well off, but one who got there without inherited wealth and with a hell of a lot of his success coming through the sheer quality of his work!

Libertarianism is attractive to young white men because it's presumably egalitarian, intellectually shallow, and supports the status quo, which means it's easy to follow and practice. It falls apart when you understand the world does not end two meters below your feet and that other humans are real.
I don't really believe the "if you're young and conservative [...]" quip, but there does seem to be a lot of evidentiary weight to suggest that it's okay to have a Libertarian phase when you're young, but only as long as you grow out of it.
(As opposed to evolving into a fascist.)

The only reason the Y2K bug didn't break everything was the dedicated and heroic efforts of a massive number of people in the two years leading up to the actual changeover, and we are already seeing effects of the equivalent 2038 bug starting to happen

Also there's a literal industry built on trolling the libs, etc. When you block instead of engaging, you are taking money away from some of the worst people in the world.

I keep tripping over the language people use for LLMs. It’s so emphatically anthropomorphic. Take “hallucinate”. That sounds so vibrantly psychonautical. But what it means is that the system delivered nonsense at the point of use. No one saw angels eating a cake shaped like Ryan Phillippe.
