I remember a law prof friend saying that the idea of corporate civil rights binds consumers without binding capital…
Since “corporations are people,” can Grok be charged with a crime? Specifically, violation of the Take It Down act that Ted Cruz introduced and that Trump signed into law in May?

Folks bypass things like the fact that NYPD activated drones and 30 cop cars for a demonstration of 1000 people in freezing weather today. The levels of surveillance and potential repression are taken as regular order in this country.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

Fascism is fundamentally a politics that produces a past that never existed & promises to drag it into the present

It is not a coincidence that it dovetails so neatly with this particular technology
2 things:

1) Joel is right here in that AI is a "restorative" nostalgia (from Svetlana Boym) machine, in that it produces a past that never existed & tries to drag it into the present

2) the crusade imagery is violent white supremacy (see next post)
It’s quite telling that so many right-wing dealers in nostalgia are embracing the aesthetics of modern AI-generated art. Can’t actually find real images of the imagined past to which you want us to return? No problem; just generate it with AI.

Cover reveal. It's about how & why colonies/states controlled international & domestic migration until 1888, why in the late 19th c the feds took over, & what it was like for politically disfavored groups to live under that arrangement of power. You can't understand voluntary migration history 1/

I) Be stubborn. Be pigheaded. It's your art. Also read a lot. I mean, a LOT.

Now, go write.

This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write."

A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption.

B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

Someone once posted a review of Beyond Shame saying it should be illegal for the author to ever write anything again, even a grocery list. 🤣

That book is the one that the most people have written to us about saying it literally changed their lives.

Make big art that inspires big feels. 💓
You’re going to be okay. Someone will hate your book. You’re going to be okay. Someone will not get what you’re trying to do with your art and judge you. You’re going to be okay. You’re going to keep creating, in 2026, because you need it and because the world needs you to. Okay?

Annual reminder that the world didn't crash on Y2K because countless people put in countless hours of work to ensure computer systems were updated to handle the date switch from 1999 to 2000.

It was a real problem that a huge group effort fixed.

Along with the racist fake grievance of "apologizing for being white," there's also the fact that a bunch of white folks seem to believe (and/or are willing to suggest) that even acknowledging systemic advantages they get for being white is the equivalent of being "forced to apologize."
Next time someone says they don’t have to apologize for being white anymore, ask them to tell about the most recent time they were forced to apologize for being white and who made them do it.

The cops shot and killed an activist during STOP COP CITY and then the state criminalized the protesters for indicting over 60 people on RICO charges... THAT IS STILL HAPPENING NOW. Those charges have not been dismissed. The first trials are underway.

The US has had the most combative, organized and social movement oriented working class in the West over the last fifteen years, there are whole national street mvmts people have completely forgotten about (OccupyICE, anybody?) and anyone who fails to name this assessing the political situation 🚮
I’ve said it and I believe it is true

There is a willful forgetting and suppression of the memory of the hundreds of protests that shook this nation for the past decade and a half. So while Canadians and European laypeople whine “Americans don’t do anything,” the Americans are actively suppressed

Gaining control of climate change, via renewables, is next. Noteworthy that 🇨🇳 and 🇪🇺 take the driver‘s seat.
The science breakthrough of 2025 is Solar Energy, not because it is new but because of how successful its deployment has been. This year renewable energy surpassed coal as a source of electricity worldwide. Hopeful sign for what’s to come.
